Steamtown Church (Scranton, PA) – Youth Pastor
The Big Picture
Steamtown Church (https://www.steamtownchurch.org) is seeking a Full-Time Youth Pastor who is bilingual and can serve both our English and Spanish congregations.
Position Overview:
As an inter-generational and multi-cultural church with a congregation of approximately 350
on a given Sunday. Our mission is to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ. Our
vision is to ensure that every teenager and their family in Northeastern Pennsylvania has
repeated opportunities to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The primary responsibility of the Youth Pastor is to raise up a growing and healthy next
generation of leaders and disciples for Jesus Christ. The Youth Pastor will also facilitate and
oversee the spiritual development of the next generation in partnership with their families. The
Full-Time Youth Pastor must be able to lead multiculturally.
The Full-Time Youth Pastor will oversee the spiritual development of teenagers through the
parents and youth workers at Steamtown Church, engaging with youth, assisting parents, and
organizing activities and events. This role includes leadership, teaching, and mentoring
responsibility, i.e. reproducing reproducers. The leader will work closely with other youth
volunteers, maintain oversight of the youth space and equipment, and integrate the church’s
vision and mission into youth programming.
Education & Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate degree desired from a Bible college or Christian university with a
degree in Theology, Christian Education, Youth Ministry, or Young Adult Ministry.
- In lieu of formal education: Must be a seasoned and mature Christian with a strong
understanding of the Scriptures, capable of teaching effectively.
Biblical Qualifications (Based on 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9):
- Male
- Above reproach/blameless, he must manage his own family well and see that his
children obey him with proper respect.
- Faithful to his wife
- Temperate, self-controlled
- Respectable, hospitable
- Able to teach
- Not given to drunkenness
- Gentle, not violent or quarrelsome
- Not a lover of money
- Not a recent convert, with a good reputation with outsiders
- Upright, holy, and disciplined
- Humble, servant leader (Luke 22:25-27; 1 Peter 5:3)
- Holds firmly to the church’s doctrine and authority of Scripture
General Qualifications
- Born again believer with a maturing relationship with Christ with a dependence on the
Holy Spirit. Fully believes and supports the entire Bible as God’s inspired Word.
- Must be a Baptized (immersed) Believer. Passionately embody God’s Word through
daily living, exhibiting biblical moral character and practicing regular spiritual
disciplines.
- Agree with the Steamtown Church Statement of Faith.
- Desired three or more years of experience in leading and teaching youth ministry
programs or previous Youth Pastor role.
- Maintain relational, spiritual, and professional trustworthiness within their family,
other elders, pastors, staff and church body.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement youth ministry programs and communicate
effectively.

- Prayerful in disposition and gentle and humble in character.
- The Youth Pastor is to set an example of spiritual maturity and personal health. He is
to maintain a healthy marriage and family life.
- He gives great attention to his own personal walk with Jesus and displays noticeable evidence of spiritual authenticity.
- He emulates the life of Jesus and the students can see Jesus in the way he lives his life.
- He has built accountability safeguards into his life.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of ensuring the spiritual growth and development of
students grades 6 through 12. This includes preparing and preaching the Youth
Services, leadership of weekly programs and periodic special events (camps,
conferences, trips, service projects, etc.).
- Recruit, disciple, equip and empower youth leaders with an emphasis upon
reproducing reproducers.
- Model strong and relational Christian leadership to the youth of the church.
Staff Meetings:
- Attend weekly staff and pastoral meetings.
Youth Group Oversight:
- Presently we have a Wednesday Youth Group (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, hours may vary)
and a Sunday Youth group (1:00 – 3:00).
- Special Monthly Events with Outreach in mind (Bowling, Knobels etc.).
- Example Events: Summer Camp, Snow Camp, Missions Trip, All-nighter (Reverb).
Sunday Services:
- Faithfully attend all church services
Mentorship & Accountability:
- Have a mentor within the church.
- Active involvement in a d-group.
Areas of Building Oversight
- The youth fellowship room.
- Youth room A/V equipment
Compensation
- Full time position
- $40,000 with a three-bedroom parsonage valued at $20,000. ($60,000)
