Position Overview

The Student Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting students, families, and staff at Denver Street School. This position provides flexible assistance where needed most—offering safe childcare for infants/toddlers on campus, reliable transportation for students, and in-classroom support for teachers. The role requires compassion, responsibility, and adaptability in order to meet the diverse needs of our school community.

Key Responsibilities

Childcare Support

• Provide safe, nurturing supervision for infants and young children of students or staff during the school day.
• Maintain a clean, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child’s care and needs.

Student Transportation

• Safely transport students to and from school, activities, and appointments as assigned.
• Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and school transportation policies.
• Ensure timely and dependable pick-up and drop-off for students.

Classroom & Teacher Assistance

• Support teachers with classroom management, supervision, and instructional needs.
• Assist students individually or in small groups with assignments, projects, or skill-building.
• Help maintain an orderly, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
• Occasionally subbing classes in case teacher is not available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
• Experience working with children and/or youth in educational, childcare, or mentoring settings.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; comfortable operating a school vehicle.
• Reliable, flexible, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
• Strong communication and relational skills with both students and staff.
