Student Pastor
Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton, SD, is a thriving community within the Converge network, characterized by a vibrant focus on family ministries and a rich 75-year history of Gospel-centered service. The church is led by Lead Pastor Errin Mulberry, who became the Lead Pastor 5 years ago. They offer two identical services on Sunday mornings with a contemporary style of worship.
Engaging around 550 regular attendees for Sunday morning services, they currently have a dynamic youth group of approximately 60 students. Calvary’s mission is “Building Up to Reach Out,” which compels them to cultivate deep relationships with their community, especially through varied programs like daycare, preschool, and a commitment to serving unchurched families in the area. With a strong discipleship ministry encompassing over 30 active groups, community is indeed a cornerstone of what makes Calvary a special and welcoming place to pursue ministry and church life.
The church is seeking the right candidate to take over as the new Student Ministry Pastor to oversee their entire student ministry at the church. The right candidate for this role will have a deep personal life in Christ and the character and capacity that align with the church’s overall mission and vision. Below are the qualifications and responsibilities Froot Group and the church have identified for this role:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Ministry Development:
- Lead and direct the Student Ministry program for grades 7-12, creating a vibrant, engaging, and spiritually enriching environment for students to grow in their faith.
- Build strong relationships with all students, actively reaching out to newcomers and fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and connected.
- Mentor and empower a dedicated team of leaders, encouraging them to invest in their relationships with students and to cultivate a culture of discipleship within the context of small groups.
Spiritual Guidance:
- Model godly living and exhibit a lifestyle that reflects the teachings of Jesus, ensuring that your actions serve as a positive example for students.
- Adhere to the general doctrine of the New Testament Christian churches, including beliefs about the inspiration of scripture and the core tenets of the Christian faith.
- Fulfill the biblical qualifications of leadership as stated in Titus 1: 5-9 and 1 Timothy 3, effectively communicating and collaborating with your team of volunteers to ensure a unified vision for the Student Ministry.
Program Management:
- Plan, organize, and oversee student ministry activities, including weekly gatherings on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, as well as special events such as retreats, mission trips, and service projects.
- Create engaging and relevant lesson plans and activities that challenge students to deepen their relationship with Christ and develop their gifts for service.
Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with church staff and other ministries to ensure that the Student Ministry aligns with the overall mission and vision of Calvary Baptist Church, proactively seeking opportunities for partnership and outreach.
- Engage with parents and families regularly, providing support, resources, and communication that encourages their involvement in their students’ spiritual growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A deep, personal commitment to Christ and an unwavering passion for youth ministry, with an ability to communicate Biblical truths in a relatable and applicable manner.
- Hungry: A commitment to ongoing personal growth and learning, seeking out new ideas and methods to improve the student ministry experience.
- Humble: An attitude that recognizes and values the contributions of others, promoting teamwork and collaboration while giving glory to God in all endeavors.
- Smart: A doctrinally sound individual who is adept at relating Biblical principles to everyday life, providing practical encouragement and guidance for students as they navigate challenges and decisions.
- Education
- A bachelor’s degree in a relative field is preferred, though not required.
- Experience
- At least one to two years of experience in leading a student ministry is ideal, though not required.
