Student Ministries Director

The Big Picture
The Gathering Place (https://tgpny.org) is actively searching for a new Student Ministries Director. This role will oversee the Student Ministries at TGP. The right candidate will have a deep personal life in Christ and the character and capacity that align with the church’s overall mission and vision. Below are the qualifications and responsibilities the Elders and Executive Leadership Team have identified for this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Oversee, promote, and lead Middle School, High School, and College Age Ministries, regularly scheduled special events, etc.
- Recruit, coordinate, disciple, and regularly train a team of Student Ministry Volunteers
- Serve as the primary Biblical teacher and faithfully study, prepare and handle the Word of God.
- Create, manage, and maintain responsibilities for the Student Ministries calendar.
- Establish and maintain regular, and early, channels of communication with parents regarding Student Ministries.
- Work with Lead Pastor and TGP Kids Director to help lead quarterly meetings to inform and equip parents.
- Support and equip parents through quarterly meetings, communication, and personal access.
- Be committed to regularly gathering with the church family through Sunday Gatherings, Gospel Communities and everyday life.
- Direct recruitment and training of leaders/volunteers as needed for discipleship of students, weekly activities and special events.
- Develop a student leadership program for advanced discipleship and leadership development of our students.
- Implement program management including security policies and procedures in support of weekly meetings and special events.
- Plan and conduct periodic parent focus group meetings to assess the needs of student families.
- Work with applicable staff to cast a vision and expectation for each student to be discipled through various mediums (e.g., individual discipleship, small groups, weekly gatherings, summer camp, etc.)
- Develop a consistent presence on school campuses, school-related activities and groups, and community events.
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Manage and steward Student Ministries Budget and other resources
SPIRITUAL & CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a passionate, growing, personal relationship with Him
- Meet the biblical qualifications for an overseer (I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9)
- Possess the spiritual gifts of teaching (Romans 12:7), leadership (Romans 12:8), and administration (I Corinthians 12:28)
- Natural catalyst with high sense of urgency, drive, and energy
- Pastoral heart of care and support
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Have a teachable spirit, humble heart, and willingness to be held accountable
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High ability to handle confidential information
- Be (or become) a member of TGP upon employment
- Be an active and supportive member of a local Gospel Community, ideally helping to lead one alongside a team
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule and execute monthly meetings with Lead Pastor for ministry updates
- Participate in Teaching Team discussions, trainings, and plannings when scheduled
- Work in conjunction with TGP Kids Director to develop and maintain a cohesive strategy for students K-12
- Help and support other team members when needed and feasible
- Attend one Student Ministries focused conference or training a year for continuing development and exposure to best practices
- Coordinate and communicate consistently with XP for facilities and resources usage
- Support the Mission and Vision of TGP
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3+years experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity (preferred)
- Bachelors Degree required and Seminary training preferred
- Engagement in Continuing Education focused on ministry development
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Position: Full time
Compensation: Salary with benefits – FLSA EXEMPT
Weekly Hours: 40-50hrs
Compensation: commensurate with experience/qualifications
