Salary:

Up to $70,000 including all allowances.  We are open to full-time or part-time candidates, depending on candidate.

The Church 

Our church was established in 2013, when we began by meeting in homes before purchasing the historic but recently restored, Beckwith Tavern. We are located on Highway 70 in the small town of Beckwourth in rural Northern California. SCC owns the building in-full, and the Lord blessed us with the ability to add a classroom wing in 2021.  We use the bar area to serve lunch weekly for us to fellowship together as a family and with new-comers.

We currently have 73 members.  Approximately 70-80 regularly attend the worship service.  Our community and our church are largely conservative.  We feel led to offer a unique church service that is somewhere between traditional and contemporary.  We still use our hymnals weekly and we are very mindful of what songs are incorporated into each service.  We are open to and currently include contemporary songs that clearly align with scripture sincerely honor and please God (not simply to satisfy ourselves).  We offer small groups for men, women, youth, and children and also offer nursery weekly during Sunday School and during our weekly worship service. We also support the Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry and local ministries such as Peak Women’s Care, weekly lunches, community movie nights, a fall festival, and annual community dinner. Our church has a vision and desire to continue to grow in Christ and to serve our community however the Lord leads. We desire to expand, produce fruit, and make disciples. We are open to and value growth as the Lord leads us, and we love the ministries and the worship service He has us enjoying at this present time.

Our founding pastor went home to be with our Savior in 2021.  Our body has remained faithful and strong through some difficult times.  We consistently vote on new members during each quarterly membership/business meeting.

The Lord has blessed us with a retired pastor who has been making a 5-hour round trip each week to fill our pulpit.  We are so grateful for his faithful service, but we are also eagerly awaiting God’s shepherd for Sierra Christian Church.  While we have continued to do pretty well as a body, and our current elders, deacons, and ministry leaders have faithfully continued to lead (not only holding things together, but continuing flourish). However, we are missing a piece of our body, namely our Pastor.  We trust God has a plan to make our body whole.  Could you be the man He has planned for us?

Duties and Qualifications:

• Sierra Christian Church is prayerfully seeking a new senior pastor. In addition to the Biblical requirements for leadership laid out in I Timothy 3:1-7, we are looking for a pastor to be a shepherd to our small, mountain-community church.
• We are looking for a pastor who agrees with our mission statement: Under the direction of our Lord Jesus Christ, Sierra Christian Church exists to love God and love the next person we come to and core beliefs (these can be found on our website as we were not able to post them here).
• He must love God, love our church family and the greater community, have a heart for people, and consider pastoring, personal spiritual growth with Jesus, and establishing relationships among his highest priorities.
• He must have a clear sense of his calling of obedience to the Lord.
• He must have a servant’s heart (considering no job too small or beneath him and willing to work side-by-side with other members of the body), lead by example, provide vision and leadership, and be discerning, humble, and empathetic.
• He will preach the Word with conviction and clarity. It would be important for us that our pastor preach (mostly) in an expository manner.
• We hope for a pastor that shares our desire for Sierra Christian to become his home.
• In addition, we want to emphasize agreement with verbal, plenary inspiration and complementarianism.
• We would like a married man or widower with a good sense of humor, who is a good fit for our church and our rural community.
• We expect that our pastor will whole-heartedly embrace eastern Plumas County by living, working, recreating, and connecting with residents of our community. Ideally, he would be looking for a tight-knit church community in a lower stress-environment. The combined population of all communities within our reach is approximately 5000 residents.
• Compensation: Our current tithes and offerings allow us to budget UP TO $70,000 for our pastor. This would account for salary, housing allowance, mileage, and health and retirement benefits.
