Summit Church, situated in Montrose, Colorado, was established on January 24, 2021, as a SEND church plant. The congregation currently consists of 25-30 regular attendees. Summit Church seeks to faithfully be a gospel-centered, loving, and diverse community committed to discipleship and equipping believers for the work of the ministry. We desire to be a source of salt and light within the Montrose community. The church is committed to the expository teaching of God’s inerrant Word. We practice the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, while worshipping with prayer and gospel-centered hymns, psalms, and songs.

After the departure of our church planter, we are seeking to hire a full-time Senior Pastor who can lead our local church in accordance with Scripture.

As Senior Pastor at Summit Church in Montrose, Colorado, we are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications and attributes to work alongside a team of elders to lead our congregation:

  • Character Qualifications: Demonstrated integrity, humility, and a commitment to personal holiness in both professional and personal conduct. Meeting the biblical qualifications for eldership as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
  • Pastoral Experience: Demonstrated experience, 3 years preferred, in pastoral ministry, preaching, teaching, and providing spiritual care. Previous experience working with a team of elders is advantageous.
  • Seminary Education: Completion of a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent theological training from a conservative accredited seminary would be preferred. A strong foundation in theology, pastoral care, biblical studies, and church leadership is essential for this role.
  • Theology: A solid understanding and commitment to Biblical theology, including doctrines such as the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, grace and faith.
  • Expository Teaching: Proficiency in expository preaching and teaching, with the ability to communicate the truths of Scripture in a clear, engaging manner to the congregation.
  • Discipleship Focus: A heart for discipleship, and equipping believers to grow in their faith and deepen their relationship with Christ, for the work of ministry. Experience in developing and implementing discipleship programs is beneficial.
  • Shepherd’s Heart: A strong shepherd’s heart characterized by compassion, empathy, and a genuine love for people. The ability to provide pastoral care, counsel, and support to individuals and families in various life circumstances. Biblical counseling training or certification would be a great asset.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities, including team building, conflict resolution, and organizational management. The capacity to work collaboratively with a plurality of elders and lead the congregation with wisdom and humility.
