Program Overview

The Master’s Apprentice is a faith-based ministry where the Christian faith is an integral component. We were created to connect low-income young adults searching for a brighter future to career paths in the construction trades. For over 10+ years, our pre-apprenticeship classes have placed hundreds of low-income individuals into high paying apprenticeships in HVAC, plumbing, electrical carpentry and more!

The pre-apprenticeship is focused on professional development, hands on training, employer connections and placement support. The curriculum includes work ethics, construction math, personal finance, career planning and resume/interview skills. The students will also have hands on experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, solar labs, and field trips to live job sites. The program is tuition-free and provides students with an incentive stipend to attend. Cohorts attend a 6-week course with a goal of being hired to begin their apprenticeships in their chosen fields upon graduation.

Position Summary

The primary goal of the recruiter is to recruit 100 qualified applicants every 8 weeks for the program for a total of six class session each calendar year. This a full-time “at will” contract position that involves some evening and weekend hours to reach the targeted population of low-income young adults (ages 18+) that are unemployed or underemployed. The outreach effort will be supported by a social media campaign. The recruiter/navigator shall also manage a caseload from each cohort of students in supporting them successfully complete the program through placement on a career path.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Media Campaign and the Social Media staff, this position will develop recruitment strategies to attract qualified applicants to fill the 24 class seats for each 6-week program. The goal of 6 cohorts is to enroll 288 students, graduate 225 and place 180 (80%) into paid apprenticeships. Goals will increase with each next year.
  • Assist in collecting and reviewing potential student applications to assure the minimum document requirements of proof of GED or Diploma, driver’s license, social security, drug screen and work history are obtained.
  • Interview, assess and approve candidates for enrollment
  • Attend each class orientation for new candidates prior to the first day of the program.
  • Attend each graduation ceremony in support of the students and their families.
  • Coordinate and participate in job fairs, community, and industry events where the targeted student population may be reached. Set up displays, hand out materials and promote the program as needed.
  • Make presentations at churches, schools, organizations and events to attract potential students and to also engage and inform influencers such as parents, grandparents and extended families of the students.
  • Work with our contracted Social Media Professional to learn how to maintain and update the various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube…Etc.) on a weekly basis. The Social Media manager will train the student recruiter and transfer the knowledge over the first 3 months.
  • Coordinate communications with applicants.
  • Maintain accurate files on all applicants, students and graduates, including demographic and placement data for grant audit purposes.
  • Serve as Navigator for placed graduates in support of their initial steps of apprenticeship upon placement with a company.
  • Report to the Director of Operations for training, program goals, data reports and other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • As a faith-based program the candidate must be a committed Christian and support the ministry’s statement of faith. Candidate should demonstrate experience and history of effectiveness in a ministry setting given regular interface with churches and faith volunteers
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED, College or some advanced education preferred.
  • 21 years of age or older and be a U.S. Citizen
  • Submit to a Background check
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent and self-motivated work style
  • Excellent follow-through and strong organization skills
  • Access to reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • A passionate and committed belief that youth can rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles and successfully begin a career
  • Experience working with disadvantaged youth and low-income populations.
  • Background experience utilizing social media as a tool for networking
  • Display a passion and optimism for developing a diverse workforce
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Experience in/knowledge of the various construction trades is a plus
  • Displays original thinking and creativity in fulfilling the mission
