Position Description:

To show the love of Christ by providing a safe, warm, loving environment where children can explore, learn, and be challenged within their capabilities.

 

Requirements:

  1. Have a personal walk with Jesus
  2. Have a servant’s heart
  3. Have a good rapport and enjoy working with children
  4. Provide the documentation required to meet one of the group leader qualifications set by social services
  5. Desire continual learning
  6. Able to efficiently carry out her planned lesson
  7. Flexible to willingly insert unplanned learning opportunities
  8. Must be a little bit silly, playful, kind, compassionate
  9. Slow to anger
  10. Reliable and dependable
  11. Pleasant, approachable, and easy to get along with
  12. Shows evidence of emotional maturity and stability
  13. Physically capable of working with children
  14. Able to deal with a child’s temperaments in an effective, yet loving way.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. To plan a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both individuals and the group.
  2. Adjust the program to the individual needs of the child in regard to interest, talents, handicaps, and individual style of learning.
  3. Helps the children to understand their role as members of a larger, social group.
  4. Observes, records, and reports significant individual and group behavior to show progress over the course of the school year using standardized tools such as TS GOLD.
  5. Treat children with love, patience, dignity, and respect.
  6. Maintains good communication with parents through the writing of a weekly email, monthly newsletter, the home visit, progress report and/or parent conference.
  7. Strives to enhance the learning environment of the classroom through the use of room arrangement, bulletin boards, centers, and other decor.
  8. Attends weekly staff meetings.
  9. Washes the tables (and maybe chairs) with bleach water every day before and after snack and after the children leave.
  10. Keeps the toys and other surfaces disinfected daily.
  11. Helps with book orders, special events, etc.
  12. Makes sure children are properly attired for outdoor play.
  13. Provides children access and assistance with the restroom as needed.
  14. Children are always in line of sight and are counted at transitions.
  15. Integrates faith in routine of the classroom with a bible story, prayer time, music, dramatic play, etc.
  16. Fosters communication between school and home on a daily basis – sharing information with the parents, including greeting and departing as well as email and other forms of communication.
  17. The teacher is attentive to the needs of the child and takes time to provide quality interaction with each child in the classroom.
  18. Provides each child with a year-end book including photos of the highlights of each child’s school year.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

 We believe that each child learns by example (Deuteronomy 6:7).  Teachers of young children should hold a biblical worldview and live a Christian lifestyle in their home, school, and community.
