Senior/Lead Pastors
Job Overview:
New Hope Baptist Church (NHBC) in Craig, Alaska is prayerfully seeking a Pastor to
lead our multigenerational congregation. We are searching for a candidate who loves Christ and
His Church, who is committed to proclaiming the Word of God from the pulpit and serving as a
strong leader and communicator within our congregation and our community.
NHBC has been blessed to faithfully serve God in our rural community for the last 26
years. We are a Bible believing, independent, New Testament Baptist church, which was founded
by a missionary couple and continues to run independently with the grace of God and the support

The successful pastor candidate will be called upon to bring vision and leadership for our
church while also embracing our history and established mission, which is “Preaching Christ As
Man’s Only Hope”. This will be accomplished by effectively spreading the Gospel of Jesus
Christ, guiding the congregation in continual spiritual growth, and providing pastoral care and
love to the congregation and our community through the love of Christ.
Responsibilities:
The Pastor is the spiritual leader of the congregation and shares the responsibility for the
implementation of vision, mission, and congregational goals of the church. The Pastor provides
leadership and accountability to all ministries within the church and provides assurance that all is
done in a way that glorifies God and avoids illegal, unethical, or inappropriate means. Specific
areas of the Pastor’s responsibility include but are not limited to:
-Preaching / teaching 3 weekly services
-Discipleship
-Servant leadership
-Guard against false doctrine and teaching
-Oversee praise and worship services
-Ceremonies and rituals (baptisms, weddings, funerals, Lord’s Supper)
-Stewardship
-Fellowship with congregation and community
-Congregational and community ministries / outreach
-Personal spiritual and professional development
Requirements And Qualifications:
-Has an intimate, abiding relationship with Jesus Christ and meets the Biblical
qualifications for a Pastor presented in Titus 1 and 1st Timothy 3.
-Aligns with NHBC Statement of Faith
-Is a compelling and engaging communicator of God’s Word
-Demonstrates sustained personal self-awareness and emotional health in previous church
leadership / pastoral roles and actively works toward ongoing growth in this area
-3-5 years minimum experience in ministry, church leadership, or pastoral roles
-Biblically literate and a life-long student and learner of the Bible
-Has a calling from God for the people of NHBC, the community of Craig, and the
people of Prince of Wales Island
Notes:
Craig is a tight-knit, rural Alaska community with a population of approximately 1,100,
located on the Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. The island has a total of twelve
communities spread across the lush, forested island. Craig has an oceanic climate with mild
summers, cool nights, and wet and chilly winters. Fishing, hunting, gathering, and hiking are
popular activities to do on the island. There are many activities for families with children, such
as: basketball, wrestling, recreation center, recreation activities, ballet, gymnastics, art, music,
swimming, and more. There are great opportunities to share the gospel and reach families
through current church programs such as the playgroup, youth group, and holiday programs.
There are also opportunities to grow new ministries and reach out to families living in the same
neighborhood as the church.
