Senior/Lead Pastors
Pastor
Golden Prairie Non-Denominational Baptist Church
Our Mission: Worship God, develop maturing believers, and be a lighthouse for the lost.
Our Vision: Building a strong community of skillful, loving believers united in Christ.
Church Culture
Golden Prairie church has been in existence for over 100 years. It is located in prairie fields of wheat and is about 13 miles north of Burns, WY (population 275). The building is about 42 miles NE of Cheyenne, WY (population approximately 65,000).
People at Golden Prairie come from all walks of life. Historically the church has had a membership very involved in agriculture. More recently, many have jobs in nearby towns. Many attendees are retired with the current average age of over 50. Some are 2nd-3rd generation members owning land in the area. We are a membership of approximately 30 individuals. About 45-60 attend on Sunday mornings. We have several youth attending between the ages of 12-8, but fewer children of younger ages.
Golden Prairie is a friendly, welcoming church which has a desire to be a “lighthouse on the prairie” to spread the gospel and care for our community. Services are held Sunday mornings at 10:45 and typically last an hour and are recorded for Zoom viewing. During a Sunday morning service you will experience both modern and traditional music, prayer and teaching from the Bible. Sunday School is held prior to the main service (9:30) with an adult and teen service held downstairs. After the service, people tend to hang around and visit.
Church Facilities
Our church building has a sanctuary with a capacity of about 90-100. We have Sunday School classrooms in which classes meet weekly. Our basement area has been recently remodeled to update our kitchen area and one of the classrooms. We have room for fellowship dinners in the basement. The building sits on about 5 acres of land.
Our Parsonage house sits next to the church building. It includes 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a modern kitchen, and a single-car garage. The grounds have an older garage used for storage and a good stand of windbreak trees. The property is one mile from State Highway 213. The county and state maintain the dirt road leading to the church/parsonage building.
Strengths (what we do well)
Our strength is our people! Golden Prairie is a small tight-knit community with a strong desire to uphold God’s Truth and to build disciples who can go out in our community and elsewhere. We want to be Biblical! In order to accomplish this goal, we have a home Bible study, women’s ministry meeting and men’s breakfast. Carry-in lunches occur monthly after church. Our teachings in Sunday School and during worship services are Biblically based.
Weaknesses (where to change and grow)
Golden Prairie is aging. We are in need of outreach and evangelism to young marrieds and youth to help our church grow. We have a small pool of leaders and are in need of new people to be involved in using their talents and gifts in helping with various ministries including: teaching, running technology, music ministries, and maintenance of the facilities.
Ministry/ Philosophy direction ( Please see our core belief statements)
We hope to continue and expand on teaching from the Bible. We are seeking to do a better job of reaching new people who have moved into the community. We want to be known as a people who love God, love each other, and love the community we are called to serve. We want to be a church that is growing and moving forward with God. We recognize that our priority should be to grow the Kingdom rather than our church. We work with like-minded sister churches from time to time.
