Mariners Church is a vibrant and welcoming community located in Half Moon Bay, dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus Christ and making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families. With a congregation of approximately 200-250 active participants the church serves as a beacon of hope in an unchurched area, fostering connections that reach beyond its walls. Our weekly services are heavily focused on worship, praise, and the teachings of the Bible to become who God intends us to be.

At Mariners Church, our mission is to reach the unchurched people of the Coastside with the message of Jesus Christ and nurture authentic relationships, helping individuals and families grow in their faith while serving the community with love and grace.

Mariners Church envisions significant growth and transformation by 2030. Our goals include expanding our congregation to 500 members, developing youth and family ministries that inspire every person to encounter Jesus, and increasing participation in Life Groups from 30% to 75%. Additionally, we aspire to enhance our outreach efforts to neighboring communities, ensuring we reach unchurched families and individuals on the Coastside and foster a culture of openness where families can worship together and experience true community.

 The format is simple: welcome, band-led musical worship, message, and announcements. Our biblical teachings aim to inspire and deepen faith, ensuring that sermons resonate with the lives of the congregation. Through compelling worship services, we strive to glorify God and cultivate an environment where individuals can experience spiritual growth and seek deeper connections within our ministries.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Location: Mariners Community Church, Half Moon Bay, CA, 94019

Overview

Mariners Community Church is seeking a passionate and dynamic Lead Pastor who will shepherd our congregation and engage with our unchurched community. The ideal candidate will embody our core values and vision for the future, fostering spiritual growth, involvement in the church, and outreach. Our goal is to cultivate a thriving and vibrant church environment that inspires individuals and families to connect with Jesus and each other.

Key Responsibilities

The church aspires to be more involved in outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening connections within the Coastside communities. Through various programs and activities, Mariners Church works to serve those in need, provide support to unchurched individuals, and create opportunities for fellowship and growth.

1. Vision, Strategic Planning, & Culture

Collaborate with church leadership to articulate a clear vision and strategic plan for spiritual growth and outreach.Analyze metrics related to church engagement and effectiveness, adapting strategies as needed to meet the congregation’s needs. Strategic planning and long-term vision development, including setting measurable goals for ministry impact and growth

Maintain a culture of openness and authenticity, encouraging families to worship together.

Inspire a spirit of volunteerism, ensuring that members are actively engaged in ministry and outreach opportunities.

2. Teaching, Shepherding, & Discipleship

Provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the congregation, building spiritual growth throughout the church body

Deliver compelling and biblically sound messages that deepen the understanding of Scripture among all ages.

Mentor and disciple members, encouraging them to grow in faith and service

Mentor ministry leaders and congregants to strengthen church growth and discipleship

Teach stewardship and financial literacy to the congregation and empower members to contribute generously

 Leadership & Management

Guide Steering Team and entire membership to understand and align with the Mariners Community Church constitution and bylaws as a body of Christ’s church with worldly business and operational needs

Provide guidance, direction, and accountability for Mariners staff, providing oversight and appropriate levels of delegation

Possess emotional Intelligence, interpersonal skills, and leadership capacity to manage and encourage effective relationships throughout the church body

Have effective crisis management and conflict resolution skills, with an ability to navigate difficult situations

Lead and manage diverse ministry teams, fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, accountability, and innovation

Oversee business operations and administration

Facilitate the creation and support leadership of new ministry initiatives that align with church values and mission

Develop effective staff and ministry teams through mentoring, training, and performance management

Lead a clear strategy for developing future leaders within the church preparing for transitions and ensuring sustainability of ministries

4. Ministry & Worship Development

Develop Bible-based sermon series and strategic ministry initiatives that resonate with our congregation and community

Work with the Worship Team to create and maintain inspiring worship experiences that glorify God and foster deep, heartfelt connections among attendees

Practice judgment on how to address sensitive issues and/or events appropriately, effectively, and non-politically

Represent the church in the local community, alongside other members and other church leaders, actively engaging in outreach efforts to reach unchurched individuals and families.

Develop, implement, and promote programs that expand our church’s influence in the Coastside and surrounding communities

Qualifications

A deep commitment to Christ and a strong understanding of Scripture

Proven experience in pastoral ministry, leadership, and management

Strong preaching and teaching abilities, with a passion for developing others spiritual gifts

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of community outreach and engagement

An advanced degree in theology or ministry (or working towards it)

Ability to connect with a diverse demographic, including youth, families, and the unchurched

Compensation

Base salary range starts at $120,000 and up, commensurate with experience
