Description:

Laurel Community Church:

We are a caring, Christ-centered, Biblical church with deep roots in our community. Our congregation is family oriented, active in various ministries, and consists of many growing and mature believers. Our church emphasizes missions, prayer, worship, fellowship, disciple-making, and spiritual growth.

Here is our mission statement: “Laurel Community Church exists to worship God and live out the love and teaching of Jesus Christ.”

We have a number of flourishing ministries including a youth group, Life Groups, Bible studies, VBS (which attracts between 80 – 100 children), a 5-day a week preschool, and Laurel on the Lawn – a community outreach. Our average Sunday attendance is 122. Over 50% of our congregation actively volunteers in some ministry capacity. We also actively support home grown missionaries working with ETeam Global, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and Cru, in addition to other local and global missions organizations .

Our church was founded in 1892 by circuit-riding preachers. Laurel voted in 1969 to become an independent community church. Since then we have had only four lead pastors. We have expanded our building twice; in 1997 we added a multipurpose structure to accommodate growth. In four years the mortgage was paid and we continue to be debt free.

Our former lead pastor, Mark Campbell, retired at the end of 2022 and our current ministry is led by our interim pastor Steve Hardy, the Elders, and our pastoral intern Trevor Hollis.  We have over a century of service in our Laurel Valley and we are praying for a continued, effective, and growing ministry here. Thousands of people live within a five-mile radius of Laurel. The nearest church to Laurel is five miles away. There is a great potential for growth because of our location.

Description and Historical Summary of the Laurel Community Area

The Laurel area is cradled in a beautiful, rural, agricultural setting that, due to its high precipitation, produces a variety of crops. It is only one hour’s drive from the Oregon Coast and two hours to the Cascade Mountain Range. The Laurel community is located seven miles south of Hillsboro, site of Intel and other high tech companies, and twenty-five miles southwest of Portland. The Laurel area and our church, which historically was composed of farmers, has seen the inclusion of commuters who work in high-tech and other industries.
