Description:

The Denver Street School is seeking a passionate, mission-driven high school principal to join and lead our dedicated team. This is a unique, challenging, and deeply rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact in the lives of Denver Metro’s struggling youth.

DSS is a small, purpose-driven Christian alternative high school committed to providing hope, education, and transformation for students who need a second chance. Our next principal will play a central role in advancing this mission.

The principal reports directly to the Acting Executive Director and prayerfully serves as the school’s primary educational leader. This position is responsible for upholding and embodying the mission, purpose, philosophy, and standards established by the Denver Street School and its Board of Directors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing vision, leadership, and oversight of all school operations
  • Supporting and supervising faculty and staff
  • Guiding and coordinating academic and extracurricular programs
  • Fostering a positive school culture centered on student growth, spiritual formation, and character development
  • Overseeing student conduct, discipline, and the overall learning environment to ensure that every student is supported in achieving their full potential

Qualifications:

1) Educational

  • Bachelor of Arts in education
  • Master’s degree in an educational, leadership related curriculum (preferred)
  • Applicable Colorado license
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of school leadership experience (preferred)

2) Personal

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in interacting with children, parents, and colleagues
  • A desire to continue professional development
  • Strong analytical skills (preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Google (preferred)
  • Flexibility and dependability

3) Spiritual

  • Possess a saving faith in Jesus Christ and be committed to a consistent, daily walk with Him
  • Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and a standard for faith and daily living
  • Have a calling from God to serve His kingdom through the mission of DSS in academic servant leadership
  • Have the spiritual maturity and personal leadership qualities to nurture students and consistently demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness
  • Be actively involved and faithful to a Bible-believing local church
  • Hold the spiritual gifts of teaching, discernment, administration, leadership, and service
  • Have a solid commitment to the mission of DSS, the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education
  • Demonstrate, by example, the importance of Bible study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the body of Christ.

Responsibilities:

1) Essential Functions

  • Model Christ in word and deed.
  • Cooperate with the Board and administration to implement all policies, procedures, and directives governing the school’s operation
  • Supervise the teachers
  • Collaborate with the teachers to plan or develop school curriculum and activities
  • Partner with the AED to develop and manage a budget that supports the program
  • Provide opportunities for professional development for faculty and staff.

2) Curriculum Development

  • Lead curriculum development and maintain awareness of changes in the general education field
  • Encourage the use of community resources to enrich the curriculum
  • Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities
  • Mentor teachers and support them in teaching all subjects from a biblical perspective
  • Oversee the instructional program and create an atmosphere where teachers are free to be resourceful and will encourage students to achieve their potential
  • Ensure the school’s climate is conducive to creative teaching, student learning, and self-discipline

3) Recruitment

  • Recruit, interview, and select new students and teachers
  • Facilitate intake interviews with parents and students
  • Collaborate with the team to promote the school throughout the community

4) School Culture/Climate

  • Develop a school climate that supports growth in self-discipline and encourages the school regulations and policies
  • Assist teachers in the development of strategies for managing a classroom
  • Counsel with teachers and students when behavior concerns persist and confer with parents when necessary

5) Communication

  • Communicate with parents regarding school programs, student development, and school activities
  • Lead communication strategies to ensure student concerns, suggestions, and proposals are communicated and considered
  • Assist the Acting Executive Director in communicating expectations to staff and faculty during staff orientation
  • Meet regularly with the administrative leadership team
  • Communicate to parents and staff using various digital platforms, such as Google, Teams, Newsletters, etc.
