Director of Youth Ministry
Purpose
St. Andrew United Methodist Church seeks a Director for our Youth Ministry who provides dynamic and innovative leadership. We are a church community dedicated to progressive theology, inclusivity, community connection, and outreach, in which youth are celebrated.
Key Responsibilities
• Provides creative leadership in youth ministry including recruiting, training, empowering, and supervising volunteers.
• Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Youth Ministry staff.
• Manages the planning and coordinating of retreats, mission trips and recreational activities.
• Evaluates, selects and develops curriculum.
• Provides leadership and oversight for Confirmation program.
• Takes a leadership role in the preparation and management of the annual budget for Youth Ministry including ongoing fundraising.
• Works with the lay leadership of the Youth Leadership Team as a support and resource.
• Oversees, develops and implements Youth Ministry opportunities to elevate St. Andrew as a resource center and trusted partner and thought leader within community.
• Supports and ministers to the youth and their families of St. Andrew.
• Coordinates with Children and other Ministry Directors and appointed clergy to facilitate communication, consistency and integration between ministry areas.
• Implements mission and outreach program with long and short-term mission opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuary.
Experience Requirements
• Strong experience in youth ministry, ideally at least 3-5 years.
• Mature and healthy growing faith.
• Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
• Alignment with values of St. Andrew UMC.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
• Awareness of developmental process
• Be a relational leader grounded in a deep faith in Christ
• Affirm and welcome youth from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ youth
• Serve as a resource and encourager for parents and guardians
• Communicate effectively and teach biblically sound, culturally relevant lessons
• Be organized, creative, and collaborative
• Build relationships that foster belonging, inclusion, and trust
Physical Requirements
• Stamina for mission trips and other physical activities.
• Able to lift 25 pounds.
Schedule Requirements
• Flexible schedule working on Sunday and Sunday evenings.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree and additional education or experience in working with youth.
Additional Information
• Job Type – Full-time
• Pay $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
