The Development Associate (DA) improves the effectiveness of our fundraising strategies by leveraging relational and technical skills to excel in donor relations and development operations. In every donor engagement opportunity, this role prioritizes building strong relationships with donors and increasing donor retention, especially via in-person touchpoints, data-informed digital communication, and automations. This role reports to and works closely with the Development Manager (DM).


● Schedule and conduct meetings, tours, volunteer experiences (utilizing our VOMO platform), phone calls, and other touchpoints with current and prospective donors

● Provide excellent in-person, phone, and online customer service to donors

● Ensure accurate and timely handling, recording, receipting, and acknowledgement of gifts

● Process and distribute state tax credits, primarily the Homeless Contribution Tax Credit (HCTC)

● Other duties as assigned


● Manage the organization’s CRM database, Virtuous

○ Ensure timely and accurate cash gift, in-kind gift, and contact import entry

○ Ensure data integrity and data quality

○ Generate lists, exports, and reports using customized queries

● Leverage the organization’s CRM database, Virtuous, to build relationships with donors

○ Build best-practice workflows and automations to increase donor retention

○ Schedule and execute prospecting strategies for all individual and institutional donors

● Collect stories from staff and alumni to be used across communication channels

● Produce and schedule e-appeals, direct mailings, and social media content

● Assist in designing fundraising materials and publications

● Help plan and execute development events, such as Lunch & Learns and livestreams

● Work with our contract developer to update the organization’s website as needed


● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications

● Preferred skill in customer relationship management (CRM) systems, especially Virtuous

● Preferred skill in social media platforms

● Preferred skill in Adobe Creative Cloud applications

● Sales background helpful
