Position: Children’s Director, Celebration Community Church

Purpose: To develop and oversee an effective ministry for children, birth thru 5th grade, leading children and ministry teams toward becoming active followers of Christ within the church and the world around them. Through creating a fun place to encounter God, as well as mentoring, leading Bible studies & discussions, coordinating events and developing volunteers, the Children’s Ministry Director will evangelize and disciple the children within the congregation of Celebration, in the surrounding neighborhoods, and throughout the city of Denver. The Children’s Ministry Director will actively seek to understand the culture in order to effectively reach and connect with children with the Good News of the Gospel. The Children’s Ministry Director would be encouraged to explore his/her own ideas and bring their own gifts to this ministry while working within our existing ministry structure and programming.

Celebration Community Church is located in southeast Denver at 1650 S. Birch Street, Denver, CO 80222. We aren’t an inner-city church, but in alignment with our core value of urban and global heart, we certainly have a heart for all who live in urban areas. Our neighborhood community is multi-ethnic, with sizable immigrant populations from a variety of countries. Despite the location and our heart for people of all backgrounds, Celebration is only somewhat diverse. About 80% of our congregation is white with 10% or so Latinx, 5% Asian, 3% African-American, and the remaining 2% are other. We share our main Bible passage for the Sunday morning message in a variety of languages because of the makeup of the congregation.

Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Children’s Education & Ministry (50%)
· Understand the spiritual and developmental needs of children.
· Research and provide age-appropriate curriculum that fits theologically and environmentally with Celebration’s mission.
· Support and equip families in spiritual development for their children through a variety of programming options.
· Maintain up-to-date tracking system and maintain accurate attendance records of Children’s Ministry activities.
· Administrate Children’s Ministry facilities and supplies. (i.e. provide a fun and safe place for kids to get serious about God)
· Develop and coordinate related programs and events, such as Arts & Jesus Camp (Vacation Bible School), Christmas and/or Easter programs, etc.
· Read, sign and implement Celebration’s Child Safety policy and incident reporting agreement/rules.

2. Ministry Volunteer Leadership & Development (30%)
· Recruit and retain an enthusiastic ministry team (i.e. children’s ministry leaders, teachers, nursery workers).
· Meet regularly with the Children’s Ministry Team to develop vision and to plan and implement programs
· Provide ministry oversight and vision to teachers and nursery workers, including periodic trainings and teacher appreciation opportunities.
· Manage effective recruitment and screening processes for potential children’s ministry volunteers. Ensure timely background check reports for new volunteers and paid caregivers and periodic background checks for current volunteers and paid caregivers.
· Provide support, mentoring and discipleship to children’s ministry volunteers through one-on-one meetings, quarterly trainings, resources and events.
· Receive periodic training/instruction on effective volunteer management strategies.

3. Ministry Development and Leadership (20%)
· Participate in weekly staff meetings, yearly Leadership Retreat, and bi-weekly meetings with the Senior Pastor.
· Represent children and bring their needs/concerns before the Elders and congregation.
· Develop quarterly and annual strategic plan for the Children’s Ministry, highlighting specific and key areas of big and small picture growth.
· Track goals and achievements in line with strategic plan.
· Participate in annual conferences/seminars (as funding permits), as well as networks (like the Mile High Children’s Ministry Network) that provide further insight into children’s ministry.

4. Time Commitment:
This is a paid position. This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position with the hope of going full-time within the next year. (There is a 60- day evaluation period, at the end of which the effectiveness and fit for the position will be evaluated before continuing the position.)

5. Reporting: The Children’s Director will report to the Senior Pastor.
