Job Title:  Bilingual Counselor 

Employment Status:  Exempt Full-Time 

Reports To:  Counseling Coordinator

Job Purpose 

The focus of this position is to provide mental health services and support to residents of Joshua Station while being an active member of the Joshua Station team.

Duties and Responsibilities 

As the Bilingual Counselor you will: 

  • Maintain a caseload of 10-15 clients (prioritizing Spanish-speaking residents) 
  • Provide counseling services to individuals (adult and child), families, and groups 
  • Meet with the Counseling Coordinator for weekly supervision and consultation 
  • Meet with counseling team biweekly for group supervision 
  • Provide support and referrals in crisis situations  
  • Teach or coordinate mental health classes to residents and staff as needed (i.e. yoga, art, parenting, trauma) 
  • Attend JS team meetings (biweekly) 
  • Attend MHM staff meetings (weekly) 
  • Participate and contribute to the Joshua Station team   
  • Collect/update counseling data  
  • Update Family Advocates – send monthly update 
  • Participate in Interviews of potential residents  
  • Participate in Family Counseling Assessments 
  • Communicate with OT/speech/outside therapists as needed 
  • Participate in professional development and trainings  

 

Organizational Expectations 

  • Abide by MHM staff guidelines as outlined in the MHM policies and procedures manual. 
  • Willingness to engage with a faith-based philosophy. We seek to build and model lifestyles of generosity, peace, and community.   
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in the learning activities of the staff, including assigned readings, occasional learning experiences and group discussions. 

  

Required Qualifications 

  • Education required: Master’s in counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English 
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the homelessness field 
  • Willingness to engage in culturally responsive practices 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Play therapy experience  
  • Licensed to practice therapy 
  • 1-3 years working with families experiencing homelessness 

  Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

  • Some evening work may be required based on client needs  
  •  The position requires desk and computer work, office/counseling work

Compensation  

Position is full-time (40 hours a week)   

Benefits include unlimited PTO health/dental/vision 75% coverage plus HSA or a Health Stipend 

401K after 1 year of full-time employment 

Pay is congruent with non-profit standards: $57,000-$67,000 

Receive free supervision for licensure (if unlicensed)
