TYPE OF POSITION:  Full-time

HOURS OF WORK: 40-50 (exempt)

PAY RATE:  $65K-$75K

POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires a solid fundamental comprehension of the practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing the data and records of financial transactions.  The Accounting Manager reviews, approves details and processes transactions consistent with an understanding of mission and vision, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and D2S policies and procedures.

 

The primary responsibility of the Accounting Manager is to assure completion of day-to-day accounting operations, assuring that they are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives. This includes oversight of internal Accounting Specialist to ensure that general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. This position will also process bi-weekly payroll. The Accounting Manager will conduct research or analysis on financial data and prepare reports for management and the board of directors.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the annual budget process and ensuring that department leaders receive support. They will also oversee the process of ensuring that budget data is properly loaded into internal systems. In addition, the Accounting Manager will research and report on department variances each month, working as needed to educate leaders to understand their numbers and their impact on the overall finances of the ministry.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Plan and prepare necessary documentation for the annual audit, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Promote accuracy and consistency in all accounting records and will develop, monitor and improve internal accounting controls.
  • Most often works independently, within broadly defined work objectives and limited (detailed) review of overall results. As such the work requires technical accuracy and compliance with instructions through spot checks, appraisal of results, subsequent processing, analysis of reports and statements, and other appropriate means.
  • The Accounting Manager serves as a member of the Management Team. This leadership responsibility includes prioritizing meetings and time with other Management Team members and the development of direct report staff within the accounting department.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • CPA beneficial, but not required.
  • Advanced understanding of general accounting theory, principles, and practices and their application to accounting transactions and problems.
  • Significant understanding of D2S computerized financial management and related systems with the goal of exercising coordination responsibilities.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook. Ability to use effectively and efficiently.
  • Solid comprehension and demonstrated ability and commitment to comply with accounting controls and procedures.
  • Effective communication with internal and external clients, customers, and staff to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner. Committed to quality service.
  • A high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
  • Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Monthly departmental transaction volume.
  • Ten-business day turnaround for standard monthly Board financial reports.
  • Limited overall financial documentation error rates.
