Youth Director, Columbine United Church
At Columbine United Church, youth and their families are a vital part of our community. Guided by God’s love and grace, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive space where young people and young adults can deeply engage with one another and the wider congregation. Columbine is a medium size church with 500 members and 2 weekly worship services on Sunday mornings. We have around 20 families with youth and an average youth group of 15 on Sunday evenings.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an energetic, engaging, and futuristic-thinking leader to serve as our Youth Director. This role requires an individual who can relate authentically with teenagers while building positive, trusted partnerships with their parents and the church at large. We are looking for a collaborative leader who thrives when working alongside church staff, committees, and volunteers.
Job Overview
- Position: Director of Youth Ministries
- Reports To: Senior Pastor
- Age group: 6th grade through 12th grade students and their families
- Hours and Pay: 15 hours a week, flexible schedule, $25 hour
Responsibilities
Youth Programming & Events
- Weekly Ministries: Provide direct leadership for Sunday morning and evening programs.
- Special Events: Plan, organize, and facilitate annual retreats, summer camps, and service opportunities.
- Family connections: Work with Pastors and Children’s Ministry Staff to plan for intergenerational opportunities to integrate youth into the larger community.
- Provide creative opportunities for families and students to develop relationships with one another and for mentoring relationships to take place.
- Cultivate a welcoming environment for youth of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
Leadership & Volunteer Management
- Recruitment: Actively recruit volunteers to support weekly youth groups, special programs and to serve as mentors.
- Training: Coordinate volunteer training through workshops, individual coaching, and online webinars.
- Supervision: Mentor and coach for youth ministry staff and volunteers during middle and high school activities.
- Involve the youth in building relationships with and serving in the ministries and life of the congregation.
- Oversee the development of intergenerational opportunities for learning, serving, and worshipping.
Administration
- Committee Partnership: Serve on the Next Generation Committee alongside the Next Gen Chair and Children’s Ministry Director.
- Meetings: Attend weekly Staff Meetings as able.
- Curriculum & Supplies: Select teaching materials and curricula in conjunction with the committee, and manage all resources and supplies.
- Strategic Input: Provide regular feedback and programming ideas to the Senior Pastor and the Next Generation Committee.
- Family Milestones: Coordinate key transition milestones for parents as their children progress through the youth ministry.
- Manage quality communication for youth, parents, volunteers, the congregation, and the community (weekly bulletin and e-blast, email, text, phone calls, social media, banners, flyers, brochures, Zoom calls, etc.)
- Maintain contact information via online database for youth, families, and volunteers.
- Provide input into budgetary needs and monitor the Next Generation Budget along with the Youth General budget.
- Implement Safe Sanctuary policies ensuring that volunteers are properly screened and that teenagers are provided safe, supervised programs, events, and space.

- Ability to work as a member of a professional team in ministry
- Be self-motivated and self-managed for daily and weekly tasks
- Aware and able to navigate the complex mental and emotional needs of teens.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience directing a successful youth program in a progressive church environment
