High-Level Job Description
BOOKKEEPER
Part-Time, Hourly
Summary: The Bookkeeper (BK) leads or oversees all of the finances of the church, preschool, and partner ministries. The BK will ensure that all applicable GAAP, local laws, financial best practices, and church-authored guidelines are met. The BK will help create an environment where the church family and attendees can Discover a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, Connect with caring, like-minded believers, Grow in spiritual, emotional, and relational maturity, and Serve each other, the local community, and the world together. The mission of BK will be to honor God by stewarding his resources well and managing the expenses and reserves so that the church can fulfill its mission of developing more disciple-making followers of Jesus Christ.
- Qualifications
- Must possess and be able to communicate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and at least three years of experience of growth in maturity.
- Must practice the disciplines of regular, personal Bible study, worship, fellowship, and prayer. Must have met or be able to meet the church’s requirements for official membership, including baptism by immersion.
- Possesses a bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in finances is a plus. (May be waived for experience.)
- Demonstrates experience leading a finance team in a non-profit setting.
- Demonstrates a call of God and passion for stewardship of EC’s finances.
- Able to speak, write, and teach, effectively, and appropriately, including the ability to produce the typical finance reports and dashboards.
- Ability to relate well and work effectively with staff, leaders, volunteers, members, and the local community.
- Able to disciple volunteer staff in an organized process.
- Able to cast a compelling, challenging, and engaging vision about the stewardship of God’s resources.
- Able to recruit and train adult leaders to serve in ministry.
- Able to agree fully and comply with the mission, vision, statement of faith, and priorities as stated in the Church Bylaws and Guiding Principles.
- Able to pass initial and periodic thorough background examinations and be bonded by the church.
- Responsibilities
- Leads, oversees, and manages the resources of the church.
- Oversee the investment of ECs reserves and maximize returns.
- Ensures the delivery of appropriate reports for staff leaders as needed.
- Researches, assesses, and implements financial best practice systems and processes.
- Plans and implements quarterly newsletters to the church family.
- Plans and oversees the annual church budgeting process.
- Plans and implements at least one mission or service project.
- Plans and implements at least one annual student leader training.
- Trains volunteers to perform data entry and administrative tasks.
- Recruits and trains adult volunteers, interns, and additional ministry staff, as needed, to support the overall mission of the finance team.
- Regularly connects with other area financial leaders for the purpose of creating joint activities, networking, and sharing resources.
General Responsibilities
- Plans and participates in periodic safety trainings for adult leaders.
- Attends and participates fully in regular church staff meetings.
- Maintains relational availability to leadership, members, and staff.
- Supports the church staff in accomplishing the church’s mission.

- Reports to the Executive Pastor of Encompass Church.
- Oversees finance ministry leaders (paid and volunteer).
- Coordinates with Encompass Church staff and leaders.
