Conference Booth Assistant (Temporary / Contract)

Organization: Friendship Press (Publishing arm of the National Council of Churches)
Location: Conference-based (e.g., AAR/SBL Annual Meeting, Denver, CO)

Date: November 20-24, 2026 (Approximately 8 AM – 5:30 PM Daily)
Position Type: Temporary / Short-Term Contract

Position Overview

Friendship Press is seeking a seminary student to serve as a Conference Booth Assistant at academic and faith-based conferences such as the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting and the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with scholars, clergy, and ministry leaders while representing a mission-driven publishing house focused on faith, justice, and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Staff the Friendship Press exhibit booth during assigned conference hours
  • Engage attendees in meaningful conversation about books, authors, and organizational mission
  • Promote and sell publications, including processing transactions (if applicable)
  • Answer basic questions about titles and direct attendees to appropriate resources
  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, and professional booth environment
  • Assist with booth setup and breakdown as needed
  • Track inventory and flag low-stock items during the event

Qualifications

  • Current seminary student (MDiv, MA, or related program preferred)
  • Interest in theology, publishing, ministry, or social justice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable initiating conversations with a wide range of attendees
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Previous retail, hospitality, or event experience is a plus
