Kids Ministry Director
Position Summary
The Kids Ministries Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight to all aspects of the children’s ministry. This role focuses on creating a fun, safe, and spiritually nurturing environment where children (from birth through 6th grade) can learn about Jesus, grow in their faith, and build relationships with their peers and adult leaders. The Kids Ministries Director will lead a team of staff and volunteers to plan and execute engaging programs, events, and worship experiences that inspire children to follow Christ.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Leadership and Vision:
- Develop and communicate a vision for children’s ministry that aligns with the overall mission of the church.
- Provide leadership and oversight for all children’s ministry programs, including Sunday services, monthly programs, quarterly programs and special events.
- Set goals and create strategies for the spiritual growth and development of children and their families.
Program Development and Implementation:
- Plan and lead age-appropriate Bible lessons, worship experiences, and activities that teach biblical truths and encourage children to grow in their faith.
- Oversee the selection and implementation of a curriculum that is biblically sound, engaging, and relevant to children.
- Organize special events, family nights, and seasonal programs (Christmas, Easter, etc.) to involve children and families in the church community.
Volunteer Recruitment and Development:
- Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers to lead children’s classes, small groups, children’s events, and church-wide events that require kid care.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and training to volunteers to ensure they are equipped to teach, mentor, and care for children.
- Ensure all volunteers are background checked and trained in child safety and building security protocols.
Family Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with parents, encouraging them to be active partners in their children’s spiritual development.
- Communicate regularly with parents about upcoming events, lessons, and opportunities for family involvement.
- Provide resources, tools, and encouragement for families to support faith development at home.
- Develop, plan, and execute family discipleship programs and classes to be held periodically (i.e. Parenting Class before Baby Dedications, Family Discipleship class once a year).
Child Safety and Security:
- Ensure that all children’s ministry programs and events follow church safety policies, including child protection protocols, emergency procedures, and check-in/check-out systems.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in all children’s ministry spaces.
- Ensure that all classroom supplies, toys, and equipment are well-maintained and sanitized regularly.
Outreach and Growth:
- Develop and implement strategies to attract new families and children to the ministry through community outreach, events, and personal invitations.
- Partner with local schools, community organizations, and other ministries to increase awareness of the church’s children’s programs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Manage the children’s ministry budget, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately for curriculum, supplies, and events.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, volunteer schedules, and program participation.
- Regularly evaluate and improve children’s ministry programs to ensure they are effective, engaging, and aligned with the church’s vision.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, with a passion for children’s ministry and discipleship.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, ministry, or a related field (or equivalent experience in children’s ministry or education).
- 3+ years of experience in children’s ministry leadership, education, or a similar role.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to recruit and mentor volunteers.
- Experience in developing and implementing creative and engaging programs for children of various ages.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to relate to both children and their parents.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with church staff and volunteers.
- Familiarity with child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- Experience with managing budgets.
- Experience with event planning and execution.
- Proficiency in using technology, including church management systems, presentation software, communication software, and social media.
