Associate and Assistant Pastors
The Assistant Pastor at New Song Church exists to help lead and shepherd the church alongside the senior pastor and leadership team. This role focuses on helping oversee the health and direction of the church while giving particular attention to discipling and developing men within the congregation and community.
A key emphasis of this position is cultivating a strong community of men who are growing in Christ, strengthening one another in faith, and reaching the surrounding community with the gospel. Through intentional small groups, relationships, and gatherings, this role will help create environments where men encounter Jesus and grow into godly leadership.
The Assistant Pastor will also help launch and coordinate Elk Mountain Men’s Retreats, creating deeper spaces for spiritual formation, brotherhood, and gospel impact.
In addition, this role is designed to help develop the candidate as a faithful preacher and pastor, providing regular opportunities to preach and teach while gaining experience in the broader leadership and oversight of the church.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in Leading and Overseeing the Church
Serve alongside the senior pastor in helping guide the overall spiritual health and direction of the church.
Participate in pastoral leadership, planning, and decision-making.
Help shepherd and care for members of the congregation.
Support the development of ministry leaders and volunteers.
Contribute to cultivating a healthy church culture centered on the gospel, discipleship, and mission.
2. Lead and Develop Men’s Ministry
Recruit, organize, and lead men’s groups that cultivate spiritual growth and biblical discipleship.
Develop environments where men grow in accountability, friendship, and spiritual maturity.
Equip and mentor group leaders to multiply healthy groups over time.
Use men’s groups as both a discipleship pathway for believers and a bridge for men exploring faith.
Foster a culture of honesty, humility, encouragement, and gospel-centered brotherhood.
3. Community Outreach Through Men’s Ministry
Build relational connections with men in the Gunnison community.
Encourage groups and gatherings that welcome men who are not part of the church.
Help create environments where authentic relationships naturally lead to gospel conversations and spiritual transformation.
4. Coordinate Elk Mountain Men’s Retreats
Oversee the planning, organization, and execution of Elk Mountain Men’s Retreats.
Coordinate logistics including scheduling, registration, communication, and retreat programming.
Collaborate with church leadership and volunteers to create impactful retreat experiences.

5. Preaching and Pastoral Development
Grow as a communicator of God’s Word through regular preaching opportunities.
Preach approximately 10 times per year on Sunday mornings.
Receive coaching, feedback, and encouragement from pastoral leadership.
Continue developing biblical depth, clarity, and pastoral sensitivity in teaching and shepherding.
