ABOUT US

Redeemer Anglican Church is an ACNA congregation in the urban heart of Richmond, Virginia, built around a vision of Gospel Formation for Missional Presence. We believe the good news of Jesus doesn’t just inform us—it transforms us into people who participate in God’s mission in the world. The Church is not a subculture, a building, or a movement. It is the making of a new humanity.

We begin with curiosity—asking the essential human questions:

What story am I in? Who am I? With whom do I belong? How do I change? Where do I make my life? What is my purpose? How do I love?

These questions demand more than doctrinal answers; they call for embodied belief—lived ways of knowing.

That’s why our life together is shaped by seven core practices, each rooted in one of these questions:

  • Telling the story of the Bible as the true and better narrative.
  • Embracing a new identity in Jesus—received, secure, and stable.
  • Finding belonging in the church and extending hospitality to the stranger.
  • Cultivating virtue through redemptive habits.
  • Discerning our cultural moment and engaging our city with wisdom.
  • Laboring in renewed vocations for the common good.
  • Reordering our imaginations through mystery and beauty.

Our hope is that, as we practice Gospel Formation together, we will become the missional presence of Jesus—among our friends, in our neighborhoods, at our workplaces, and throughout our city.

CLASSIFICATION

  • STAFF LEVEL: Full-time Co-Director
  • REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Ministries
  • COMPENSATION: $45,000 salary, full health benefits + 6% matching retirement contribution

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Co-lead the Youth Fellowship (6th – 12th grades), alongside a full-time Co-Director, including developing and implementing YF programs that align with the larger vision and ethos of Redeemer; providing spiritual guidance and care to volunteer leaders, students, and parents; maintaining outreach to new students and families at Redeemer; ensuring a safe and engaging environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Youth Fellowship Volunteers: Recruit, train, and equip a team of young adult volunteers to participate in weekly YF gatherings and relationally pursue students outside of YF programming. Help volunteer leaders understand and engage issues relevant to the YF community, as a result of their own deepening faith and spiritual maturity.
  • Students: Cultivate an environment in the YF that is, admittedly, rare to find and difficult to sustain: one in which students feel – on one hand – welcomed, encouraged, loved, accepted, and – on the other hand – challenged, led, and pastored. A healthy YF ministry culture is found in the tension between fun and serious, youthful and mature, timely (current cultural moment) and timeless (ancient faith tradition).

  • Parents: Maintain regular communication to families participating in YF and seek out opportunities to connect with families that are not yet participating in YF.
  • Program: Plan, organize, and implement programming for YF community:
    • Weekly large group gathering + small group breakouts on Sunday evenings, Fall and Spring semester retreats, and Summer service trips.
    • Recruit, train, and equip students to serve as Acolytes in worship services.
    • Oversee student preparation for baptism (if not baptized as a child) and confirmation.
  • Teaching: Oversee a weekly teaching program of the good news of the Gospel from scripture, in a manner that helps students cultivate a deep love and trust of God’s Word and see its relevance for their lives.

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Average of 5 hours of in-person meetings + 40 flexible hours of work per week.
    • Required attendance at Tuesday 9am staff meetings and all other general staff functions.
    • Required weekly meeting with Senior Dir. of Ministries and fellow Co-Director of Youth Fellowship.
    • Required weekly YF meetings and monthly meetings with YF volunteers
  • Other Required Events
    • Quarterly Staff Off-Site Days, 9am-3pm
    • Annual Staff Retreat (mid-September)
    • Annual Staff Christmas Party

PERSONALITY + DISPOSITION TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE

  • Big Hearted: Obvious affection for people, especially a genuine interest in and care for students in their age and stage of life.
  • Emotionally Resilient: An unflappable morale and eagerness to problem-solve. Youth ministry is not for the faint of heart.
  • Deep Wisdom: A real understanding of the pain and brokenness of the world and life. You are no stranger to suffering with Jesus.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING

  • Agreement with the doctrinal positions of the Anglican Church in North America described in the Jerusalem Declaration, the Fundamental Declarations of the Province, and the 39 Articles of Religion.
  • A growing and committed Christian faith, evident through fruit of the Spirit, in keeping with Galatians 5:22.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Strong commitment to the church’s mission and values, with a genuine desire to see the local church flourish.
