POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Production Director at Cherry Hills Community Church provides day-to-day leadership for worship center production operations, ensuring weekend services and internal events are executed with consistency, excellence, and technical reliability. This role leads operational planning, staff and volunteer development, and production system health across audio, video, lighting, and streaming in alignment with the Production Director’s direction and standards. Success in this position strengthens team health, improves readiness and issue resolution, and increases long term sustainability through repeatable systems, effective delegation, and disciplined follow-through.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead day-to-day worship center production operations for weekend services under the direction of the Production Director, ensuring staffing readiness, adherence to service standards, and consistent quality across audio, video, lighting, and streaming.
- Lead and develop assigned Production staff through regular 1:1s, training plans, scheduling, and performance feedback to ensure weekend readiness and team health.
- Translate the Production Director’s direction and ministry needs into weekly and seasonal execution plans, including run of show documentation, readiness checklists, service standards, and clear assignments.
- Lead service day operations through delegation and real-time oversight of rehearsals, soundchecks, and cueing, providing hands-on technical backup as needed to maintain service continuity.
- Provide second level leadership for Production by coaching staff, key volunteers and team leads, resolving escalations, and serving as the designated acting lead for worship center production when the Production Director is unavailable, including leading production planning and readiness communication across ministries.
- Lead weekly production planning and post-weekend operational debriefs, tracking action items, driving closure on open issues, and escalating risks or constraints to the Production Director.
- Direct production issue management by prioritizing service-impacting issues, assigning resources, approving routine corrective actions within delegated authority, and confirming root-cause resolution and documentation.
- Own the preventive maintenance and system health program for assigned AVL and streaming environments, including maintenance schedules, configuration management, update planning, and coordination of repairs.
- Coordinate and oversee installations, repairs, and system improvements in the worship center, ensuring safety, documentation, quality control, and alignment with the Production Director’s standards and timeline direction.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and coach production volunteers, building depth and consistency across all weekend roles.
- Assign and coordinate volunteer and staff coverage for weekend services, ensuring roles are filled, expectations are clear, and support is available with the right information and resources.
- Direct production planning and execution for worship center events that are not designated as major seasonal events, including scope, timelines, staffing, and post-event evaluation, in coordination with the Production Director.
- Support major seasonal events by providing operational input, readiness planning, and execution of delegated production responsibilities as assigned by the Production Director.
- Manage production assets for assigned environments including inventory, labeling standards, storage, spares strategy, and replacement recommendations for Production Director review.
- Support resourcing in partnership with the Production Director by coordinating vendor quotes and schedules, recommending repairs and equipment replacements, tracking routine expenses within delegated authority, and preparing documentation for budget and capital planning decisions.
- Establish and enforce production standards for safety, documentation, and quality control across AVL installs, system changes, and weekend execution, in coordination with the Production Director to ensure consistent results.
- Maintain production documentation and training materials for weekend roles, ensuring volunteers have clear procedures, standards, and onboarding pathways.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises assigned Production staff, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and accountability for weekend services and worship center events.
- Leads direct reports by setting clear goals, providing regular coaching and feedback, and fostering a healthy, Christ-centered team culture.
- Conducts performance evaluations and supports development planning in partnership with the Production Director and HR.
- Approves staff schedules and time-off requests within delegated authority, ensuring adequate coverage and alignment with church-wide rhythms.
- Participates in hiring and onboarding for Production staff in partnership with the Production Director and HR, including interviewing, training, and role readiness.
- Provides work direction and quality control for contractors or temporary production support when utilized, ensuring expectations and timelines are clear.
- Ensures consistent implementation of production safety practices for staff and volunteers, including proper equipment use, safe lifting, ladder safety, and incident reporting in alignment with CHCC policies.
- Maintains appropriate documentation and communication rhythms for staffing, training, and performance feedback to support consistency and compliance.
- Ensures all team practices comply with CHCC’s values, policies, and applicable employment laws.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in audio engineering, media production, technical theater, or a related field preferred, not required; equivalent relevant professional experience considered.
- Minimum 5 years of hands on AVL production experience in live events, church production, broadcast, or comparable environments, with working competency across audio, video, lighting, and streaming.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating teams, including volunteer scheduling, training, and live production execution.
- Experience with systems and platforms such as Dante, DiGiCo, Planning Center, ProPresenter, and Resi preferred (or comparable systems).
- Experience with Ross Video live production systems, Sony camera systems, and Adobe Creative Suite including After Effects and Premiere preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES
- Working proficiency in live audio engineering including stage patching, gain structure, RF coordination, monitor workflows, and mixing for worship services.
- Functional understanding of video, lighting, and streaming workflows sufficient to lead weekend execution and troubleshoot service impacting issues.
- Ability to create repeatable operational systems including readiness checklists, service documentation, volunteer training paths, and issue tracking.
- Strong prioritization and follow through with the ability to balance immediate service needs with system health and longer-term fixes.
- Ability to communicate clearly under pressure, provide calm leadership during live moments, and coordinate across multiple ministries.
- Sound judgment to make time sensitive, low-cost execution decisions while escalating higher impact, safety, or budget items appropriately.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); able to utilize standard tools for documentation, communication, and task coordination.
- Demonstrate proficiency with common office technologies, including email, printers/copiers, shared drives, and organizational software platforms; able to troubleshoot basic issues and learn new tools quickly.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and working under pressure.
- Available for evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
