Accounting Specialist
The Accountant Specialist provides essential support to the Finance Team by ensuring that key accounting functions, such as donation processing, accounts payable, receivables, monthly reporting, and annual audit/990, are running smoothly and in compliance with internal controls and external requirements for YFC/USA. While not directly responsible for executing these processes, the Accountant Specialist ensures consistency, accuracy, and timeliness by coordinating with relevant staff, maintaining documentation standards, and supporting process improvement. This role serves as a key quality control and operational support function within the finance department.
Essential Functions:
- Donations Management: Cross-functional collaboration with staff to ensure donations are loaded accurately and timely, maintaining both accounting standards and development metrics. Manage donor restrictions, pledges, and intentions.
- Receivable Management: Maintain billing calculations, monthly receivable reports and analysis, and support with YFC Chapters regarding their payments.
- Accounts Payable: Work with staff to ensure AP processing is timely and accurate. Maintain and ensure the application of sales tax exemptions, and complete annual 1099s.
- Provide backup processing for the above processes.
- Financial Reports: Maintain and build financial reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, cash forecasting, and trend analysis.
- Audit/990: Complete needed reporting and reconciliations for YFC’s annual financial audit and 990.
- Support the annual budget process with template and budget creation
- Collaborate with Chapter Leaders as assigned
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other miscellaneous accounting duties as assigned.

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth For Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth For Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

Fundraising Responsibilities:
All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to—extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
For Affiliate and Chapter Staff: YFC may attach a minimum fundraising goal to certain projects, activities, departments, or individuals.
Budget Responsibilities:
A Budget Manager is responsible to align all financial resources to the YFC/USA strategic plan in accordance with the delegation and direction of the Division Head. The Budget Manager is responsible for coding, approval and financial decision-making for their assigned Division, Department and/or Action Plan budget. When a budget is overfunded or underfunded, the Budget Manager is responsible to course correct though the MCCR process.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong process acumen
- Bookkeeper level or above understanding of accounting
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong emotional intelligence that can approach accounting questions/issues from a ministry perspective.
Credentials Required & Preferred Education
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 1+ years of experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, chapter leaders and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents.
Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, hand held devices, copy machine, and computer printer.
No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force may be required. Good manual dexterity required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies.
The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer and phone are normal.
