About Grace in Pagosa

We’re a joyful church in southern Colorado with a deep love for Jesus, our town, and the mountains that surround us. It’s common to see someone show up to Sunday service in ski bibs on their way to the slopes or camouflage after a morning out hunting—and we love that! Church for us isn’t about appearances; it’s about people coming together to worship, grow, and encourage one another towards a life in Christ.

We’ve been part of the Pagosa community for over 20 years, and our heart is the same now as it was then: to love Jesus and love Pagosa. Our worship gatherings are centered on teaching God’s Word, praying together, and singing songs of praise.

We believe our faith is something we live out every day of the week—not just on Sundays. You’ll find us hiking, camping, serving each other, gathering around tables, and doing life together in real, authentic Christ-centered community. We’re a diverse bunch—teachers, business owners, first responders, ski school instructors, contractors, students, and more—all united by a shared love for Jesus and a desire to become more like Him every day.

About the staff

We’re a small team with a big heart. We love our town, becoming more like Jesus, and doing life together. We laugh a lot, work really hard, and rest well. But more than all of that, we’re all about loving Jesus and loving others. We believe in serving our community, showing up for each other, and growing in faith together.

About the role

Our Director of Church Life is a vital leader who loves Jesus, loves people, and is passionate about creating the systems and structures that help ministry thrive. This role is all about building a strong foundation for our church—one where volunteers and staff are equipped and empowered, and where our ministries are supported by clear communication, thoughtful organization, and solid financial stewardship. You’ll work closely with the lead pastor and ministry leaders to ensure that everything behind the scenes aligns with the vision and mission of the church.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, train, and empower a team of volunteers who serve as the hands and feet of Jesus both within the church and in the wider community.
• Equip the deacons/ ministry leaders to lead effectively in their ministry areas.
• Oversee and implement technology that streamlines church operations and communication (including managing the website, organizing the church database, updating calendars, crafting digital and print communication, and anything else that will facilitate effective and organized ministry in the church).
• Maintain accurate church records; including meeting minutes, policies, and handbooks.
• Provide oversight of the church’s finances, working alongside the finance team to ensure our budget reflects the church’s mission and values. This includes managing budget planning, monitoring income and expenses, and ensuring best practices in financial policies.
• Serve as steward of all church property, ensuring that facilities and equipment are well-maintained and optimized for ministry.

Additonal Responsbilities

The day-to-day tasks of this role will vary widely—from sending out church-wide emails to organizing databases, to ordering supplies and coordinating church-wide events. The influence of this role extends across every area of church life, touching nearly every ministry and team. However, our heart is not just for these tasks to get done—it’s to create opportunities for people to serve and find joy in using their gifts for the church. Ultimately, we hope that as you build up a team of capable volunteers, your focus can shift to dreaming about how Grace in Pagosa can make an even greater impact beyond our walls and into the community.

Expected rhythms

We value a healthy balance between ministry, family, and rest. Here’s a breakdown of rhythms to help maintain that balance.

Annually:
• Take extended time off for rest and vacation with the family.
• Participate in a personal planning retreat and a staff/leaders retreat.
• Review church bylaws, articles of incorporation, policies, and handbooks.
• Review insurance coverages and ensure compliance with relevant labor laws.
• Maintain and update church membership records.
• Work with staff and ministry leaders to develop the church’s budget.
• Prepare an annual report of all financial and ministry activities to be presented to the church.

Quarterly:
• Take a personal retreat day to rest and seek the Lord’s guidance.
• Connect with each ministry team leader individually for a time of vision, planning, and support.
• Prepare and share a quarterly booklet that highlights ministries, opportunities, and key events for the next quarter church-wide.

Monthly:
• Check-in with ministry team leaders.
• Touch base with staff about facility and equipment needs/issues/concerns.
• Attend regular staff meetings and connect with staff to support their work.

Weekly:
• Ensure volunteers are equipped for ministry activities.
• Manage church calendar and Planning Center administration.
• Oversee churchwide email communication.
• Oversee financial activities and coordinate work orders.

Daily:
• Start with prayer, reflection, and Scripture, while balancing family time and ministry tasks.

They will be able to affirm, articulate, and uphold our core values and the EFCA statement of faith- and affirm “unity in essentials, dialogue in the differences” in doctrinal matters.
