Director of Communications
Purpose:
The Director of Communications will lead and oversee all aspects of Cadence International’s internal and external communications as well as short and long-range communication strategies. This role requires a gifted communicator and leader with a passion for the gospel and a strong understanding of nonprofit storytelling, digital engagement, brand management, and communication resource development and team leadership. The Director will ensure consistent messaging that reflects The Cadence Way and effectively engages staff, donors, partners, chaplains, churches, volunteers, and the communities we serve. The Director is responsible for leadership, management, and organization of the Communications Department and personnel. The Director will also work to achieve integration of innovative and creative approaches in all responsible functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Through effective vision, leadership, and management direction with the Communications Department, the Director will:
- Strategic Communications:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
- Ensure consistent voice and messaging across all platforms.
- Collaborate with leadership to support organizational initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and program outreach.
- Public Relations & Media:
- Serve as the primary media contact, write articles, ministry updates, and organizational materials for publication.
- Cultivate relationships with Christian and secular media outlets.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and in interviews as needed.
- Digital Engagement & Content Creation:
- Oversee website content, newsletters, blogs, and social media platforms.
- Manage digital campaigns and email marketing to enhance supporter engagement and donor development.
- Supervise the creation of high-quality content including videos, printed materials, and other resources.
- Brand Management:
- Maintain and strengthen brand identity in all communications.
- Train staff and volunteers on brand usage and key messaging.
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead the communications team (staff, contractors, and volunteers) by providing clear direction and spiritual encouragement.
- Manage outside vendors, contractors, or consultants as needed.
- Support planning efforts and attend the Cadence Worldwide Conference held every five years.
- Develop and maintain an annual budget.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Born again, mature Christian with an affinity for the mission and work of Cadence International.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, similar field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years of proven professional experience managing teams in a marketing, communications, or advertising environment, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a management/supervisory role.
- Well-developed project management and financial management skills.
- A strong emphasis on strategic thinking, creative abilities, and a work style that blends well with the senior management team in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed computer skills and varied software experience.
- Because of the distinctly Christian emphasis of Cadence’s mission work, must sign and comply with Cadence International’s Code of Christian Conduct.
- Willing to join departmental staff in prayer times for the needs of the mission and attend the weekly headquarters chapel held during work hours.
- Strengths in administration, multi-tasking, and organizational skills with superior attention to detail.
- Ability to graciously re-prioritize workload as demands change throughout the day, and flexibility to meet demands of a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to exercise considerable discretion in the handling of confidential or sensitive matters.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Office environment; occasional domestic and international travel.
