Pastor of Formation
SUMMARY
The Pastor of Formation works closely with the Lead Pastor to implement the Christ-centered mission, vision, values, culture, and priorities of Grace City Church. The Pastor of Formation develops, oversees, and directs the long term and day-to-day spiritual formation (discipleship) of our members and attendees with specific attention being given to the key areas of Gospel identity, worldview, faith and work, relationships, and the personal and corporate practices of apprenticeship to Jesus. The Pastor of Formation willingly adapts strategies and methods to fit the changing needs and size dynamics of the church.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
PERSONAL/PASTORAL
• Has a reputation for leading the life of faith and character required of a pastor in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
• If married, his wife must be a believer marked by godliness and wisdom.
• Fully supports the statement of faith, mission, vision, values, and unity of Grace City Denver and represents Christ well in the community.
• Has the heart of a shepherd to nourish, lead, correct, defend, and sacrifice himself for God’s flock.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a pastoral, education, or counseling field is preferred.
• Must have experience in a local church setting and demonstrate familiarity with the demands and requirements of serving full-time on a church staff.
• Must have experience in personal discipleship/formation and in developing and implementing discipleship/formation ministries in a local church setting.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
• Has the proven discipline and flexibility to prioritize and execute vital
ministries.
• Has proven success in conceptualizing, implementing, growing, leading, and staffing various disciple-making projects and ministries.
• Has the ability to develop systems that function efficiently whether they are directly managed, delegated, or dispersed – and the wisdom to know when to do each.
• Has proven ability to think biblically, critically, systematically, creatively, and with vision.
• Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
FORMATION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assume ultimate responsibility for the discipleship ministries of the church, including but not limited to: Gospel Communities, women’s and men’s ministries, youth ministries, GraceKids, and recovery.
• Implement and build on the Grace City model of apprenticeship to Jesus by creating resources and opportunities for hands-on training, coaching, and practice.
• Implement and build on existing Grace City resources for a robust Faith & Work ministry, including coaching, cohorts, and other best practices from other similar ministries.
• Help identify key cultural influences and assist in the creation of timely, clear, biblical responses to them.
• Champion the centrality of lifelong learning and apprenticeship to Jesus in the context of the local church.
• Implement a multi-layer approach to replicating and disseminating “evergreen” resources to Grace City and beyond.
PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Faithfully participate in services and special events.
• Actively participate in a Gospel Community and a culture of discipleship.
• Be available and able to preach at regular intervals.
• Collaborate with other pastors/elders to provide the best pastoral care.
• Participate in elders’, staff, and other occasional leadership meetings.

• is substantially aligned on key cultural issues/trends (e.g. CRT, diversity, sexuality/gender, etc.) such that these don’t become divisive or a distraction.
• is willing to persevere through challenges and difficult seasons in order to get something rooted.
• has the conviction that apprenticeship to Jesus is lifelong, organic growth and not a quick or merely programmatic fix.
• is content to minister in a dynamic that differs in significant ways from a seeker-driven, programmatic, megachurch model.
• is called to and eager to remain faithful in this particular role for a long period of time.
