Overview:

Bethel Methodist Church is a vibrant and diverse Wesleyan church committed to creating a dynamic worship experience for our culturally-diverse congregation. We are seeking a talented and passionate Director of Music Ministry to lead and cultivate our music ministry, which includes a praise band, praise team, and traditional choir. The ideal candidate will have experience in both contemporary and traditional worship styles and the ability to lead a group of musicians and singers. This individual will also have a strong commitment to spiritual worship, using music to guide and inspire our congregation to engage deeply in worship and grow in their faith.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate all aspects of the music ministry, including contemporary praise band/team, traditional choir, and our staff organist/ pianist with a focus on blending both styles of worship.
Direct and lead weekly rehearsals for both the praise groups and choir, ensuring musical excellence and effective spiritual leadership.
Select and arrange music that reflects our congregation, incorporating both contemporary and traditional music that aligns with our focus on growth.
Help choir members, praise team singers, and congregational participants develop their vocal skills, fostering an environment of musical skill enhancement.
Lead congregational worship, ensuring that the music ministry invites the congregation into meaningful, spirit-filled worship experiences.
Provide musical leadership during Sunday services and special services, including holiday celebrations, seasonal events, and other worship gatherings.
Collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor and other church leaders to select appropriate music that complements the sermon themes and a traditional church calendar.
Cultivate an environment in which musicians of all backgrounds can contribute and grow, encouraging participation from all members of our multicultural congregation.
Oversee the training and development of volunteer musicians and singers, offering mentorship and support to help them grow in their musical and spiritual gifts.
Ensure that the technical aspects of music ministry, including sound and AV coordination, are managed effectively, working closely with the audio/visual team.
Foster a spirit of unity, collaboration, and creativity within the music ministry team.
Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in music, with the ability to read and arrange music.
Experience in directing both contemporary and traditional worship music, with the ability to blend styles effectively.
A passion for spiritual worship and a heart for leading others to engage in worship through music.
Strong vocal ability and experience in coaching others to improve their vocal skills.
Playing an instrument (preferably piano/keyboard or guitar) to accompany worship and lead music teams would be a plus.
Experience in leading teams and working with a racially diverse congregation.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead rehearsals, manage volunteers, and coordinate multiple elements of the music ministry.
Knowledge of or experience with Wesleyan theology and practices.
A collaborative spirit, able to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and church leadership.
A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in both music ministry and spiritual leadership.
The annual salary for this position is $20,000 plus an accountable reimbursement account.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in music, worship arts, or a related field.
Experience with worship planning software and sound equipment.
A background in choral and instrumental conducting.
Familiarity with a wide range of worship music, from classical hymns to contemporary praise music styles.
