Chaplain Intern
Seeking a Summer Intern: Internship dates (05/21-2025-08/8/2025)
Mission Statement: The Denver Rescue Mission is changing lives in the name of Christ by meeting people at their physical and spiritual points of need, with the goal of returning them to society as productive, self-sufficient citizens.
Title of Position: Chaplain Intern
Supervisor and Supported By: Director of Chaplaincy and Community Care
Purpose of Position: The Chaplain Intern will provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals experiencing homelessness while gaining hands-on experience in ministry and pastoral care. This role will involve offering guidance, conducting spiritual programs, and collaborating with shelter staff to serve residents holistically. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Chaplaincy and gain practical experience in chaplaincy within a pastoral care setting.
Duties May Include:
- Provide shelter residents, staff, and volunteers with compassionate spiritual and emotional support.
- Conduct one-on-one pastoral care meetings with individuals seeking spiritual guidance.
- Assist in planning and leading worship services, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and devotional sessions.
- Offer crisis intervention and grief counseling when necessary.
- Support residents in exploring faith-based and community resources to aid in their recovery and well-being.
- Work alongside case workers and counselors to provide holistic care and referrals.
- Engage in outreach efforts to encourage participation in spiritual programs.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical guidelines in all interactions.
- Document interactions and maintain reports as required by the shelter.
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a theology, divinity, pastoral care, or related program.
- A deep sense of compassion and commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to provide non-judgmental support.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and respect varying religious beliefs.
- Previous ministry, counseling, or chaplaincy experience is a plus.
- Willingness to adhere to shelter policies and guidelines.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Location of Position: Admin and Education Building, 48th Ave Center, Lawernce Street Shelter, and The Crossing in Denver, CO
- Travel between all of the sites above will be expected
