POSITION SUMMARY 

Status: Part-time, 20 hours/week 

Reports to: Joy House Co-Counseling Directors 

Supervises: Child care staff 

Do you have a heart to serve families in the inner city? As part of our team, you will experience the joy of witnessing true life transformation as we engage with moms and children in special ways to foster a culture of family, belonging, and growth at our Joy House property. Joy House is our safe home for women and children recovering from domestic violence, addiction, and other unstable situations. Key components of the program include individual and group therapy, case management with goal planning and resource navigation, mentoring and spiritual support, and community engagement activities. 

In this position, creating an environment where the children feel safe, valued, and nurtured in our program and with their parents is at the heart of this role. You will provide a safe and enriching childcare experience during our weekly group activities as well as during times when moms are meeting with staff and counselors, and you will help parents achieve healthy routines, habits, and individualized parenting goals that help their children thrive and develop. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Your team approach, organizational skills, and caring presence will be greatly valued in these two different but overlapping roles: 

 Child Care Coordinator: As a child care coordinator you will provide meaningful child care experiences and ensure we have sufficient childcare staff to lead the children in safe “purposeful play” while their moms participate in group counseling and other healing activities. 

● Plan and provide nurturing activities and structure during childcare 

● Recruit childcare providers in collaboration with counseling directors 

● Train, schedule and maintain weekly communication with childcare providers 

● Communicate with moms regarding any issues that arise during child care 

● Coordinate the cleaning and organization of play therapy rooms/toys following each group therapy night 

Parenting Coach: As a parenting coach you will work with our moms to achieve parenting goals, providing coaching, education and support to build healthier family systems. 

● Meet with new residents to assess parenting needs, strengths, and gaps. 

● Meet weekly with new residents to help them establish healthy and safe parenting practices, bedtime routines, nutrition, etc. Assist parents with school or childcare enrollment. 

● Provide ongoing parenting education, support and resources individually and in group formats ● Work closely with program and clinical staff, keeping the team informed of resident needs and progress, and to coordinate care. 

Record HIPAA compliant case notes in a timely manner for Medicaid billing. Maintain confidentiality and proper storage of resident records. 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

● Certification in Early Childhood Education or exceptional experience working with children or in a social work setting 

● Incorporate TBRI principles and trauma informed care practices (post-hire training is acceptable) 

● Strong conflict management and crisis intervention skills, responding to emergency situations through thoughtful (often collaborative) crisis management 

● Strong communication and organizational skills 

● Adaptable and reliable team player 

● Engage in the greater PN community by attending meetings, training, and special events 

● Actively increase your knowledge and skills for serving our populations (reading, training, consulting) 

● Comfortable signing Providence Network’s Statement of Faith
