Position Description
The digital communication specialist will create visual design elements for newsletters, presentations, donor communications, grant applications, and the IDEAS annual report; cull and develop multimedia content to tell the IDEAS story; maintain our social media channels; and execute 4 to 6 social media campaigns throughout the year.
The digital communication specialist will work closely with IDEAS’ Chief Strategy Officer to execute projects from concept through to completion.
The position will require a combination of video and design techniques, such as interviewing, creating reels, short-form videos, Canva designs, Mailchimp designs, etc. IDEAS has a developed brand strategy (brand fonts, colors, logos, and icons). The digital communication specialist will work with our brand elements and strategy to present a cohesive approach to IDEAS visual storytelling.
IDEAS is a nonprofit sustained primarily through fundraising; the digital communications specialist will work with the Chief Strategy Officer to communicate through footage and graphics to a multigenerational partner base with different values and motives for giving. We welcome and value creative input from the digital communications specialist to help us expand our reach.
This position requires a creative person who takes the initiative, values attention to detail, can accomplish goals with minimal oversight, receives feedback and constructive criticism well, and can work with others to create excellent content that communicates a compelling message and story. IDEAS Chief Strategy Officer will have final authority over the message and content of the designs and media.
The position will include one trip per year to one of our international locations focused on cultivating content for our end-of-year campaign.

Responsibilities
- Create content for Instagram, Facebook, and other social media channels (designs, post text, videos, surveys, quotes, etc.).
- Oversee the execution of our social media, including 4-6 targeted campaigns per year and weekly posts.
- Collect, edit, and produce content for our end-of-year giving campaign.
- Design the visual elements of the IDEAS annual report.
- Produce visual design elements for marketing, donor communications, presentations, grant applications, cases for support, impact stories, Impact of giving reports, and newsletters.
- Check all work to identify and correct errors before publishing content.
- Set achievable goals and meet deadlines.
- Work independently under the guidance of the Chief Strategy Officer.
- Be proactive in planning to get footage needed for different campaigns.
- Take photos and videos that communicate the IDEAS story.
- Commit to handling disagreements and concerns with a spirit of grace, trust, and assuming the best of others.
Compensation
The position is for 20 hours per week at $22-25/hour. If the applicant is interested in more hours per week, there is the possibility of increasing the weekly hours to a maximum of 25 hours per week.
Additional Details
- We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible.
- Applicants must submit a portfolio of work (designs, videos, etc.) with their application.
- We prefer to hire someone who lives near or can commute to Wheaton, Illinois (a Western suburb of Chicago) at least twice a month to work with IDEAS’ Chief Strategy Officer. However, remote candidates are welcome to apply and will be considered.
