GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:

The Systems Support Technician serves the entire campus community with the following purposes:

  1. Provides excellent customer service and works well with a team.
  2. Provides primary Tier I / II technical support of daily operations for faculty, staff, and students by phone, email, and desk-side.
  3. Works with Student Workers to bring support issues to resolution.
  4. Recommends policy and procedure improvements to improve management of end user workstations.
  5. Proactive monitoring of administration systems for efficient, secure, and reliable workstation operations.
  6. Ability to understand customer needs so that technical solutions align with their goals and IT department processes.
  7. Sufficient knowledge of IT operations and the wide array of activities necessary to provide efficient and timely system and application support.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary support technician involving customer technical issues and questions for a wide range of systems and applications via telephone, email, and walk-ins in a timely manner.
  • Effectively prioritize requests all the while providing outstanding customer service.
  • Work closely with other IT Team members to resolve customer issues, recommend process improvements, and share lessons learned.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and educate non-technical customers.
  • Progressive understanding of IT processes and ability to perform complex tasks.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Support hardware and software systems including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, Audio/Visual components, printers, application support, and network troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with customers to provision and replace equipment, including image deployment.
  • Manage physical IT assets by entering and updating asset records in the inventory tracking system.
  • Monitor and deploy software updates to 3rd party client products such as Adobe and web browsers to all supported equipment.
  • Coordinate printer maintenance when necessary and maintain printer supply inventory to ensure supplies are always available.
  • Monitor endpoint security dashboard to identify potential presence of malware. Verify that security software is properly deployed.
  • Resolve client OneDrive, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 questions and issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various mobile device connectivity problems.
  • Warranty and lease return desktops, laptops, and other equipment as needed.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting skills in the areas of: network (i.e. command line and GUI), Windows desktop (e.g. event logs), Client-Server connections, remote connections.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • 2+ year’s relevant experience in a business environment.
  • Technical degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education a plus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-starter and high attention to detail.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing Microsoft Windows operating systems in a networked environment with Active Directory.
  • Experience using OS imaging tools.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and supporting MS Office applications, including SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and replace computer hardware components.
  • Strong IT acumen and ability to transfer that knowledge to troubleshooting.
  • Ability to log and update all requests for service with detailed information in work order tracking system.
  • Strong desire to establish and grow technical career.
  • Keep a professional appearance and workspace.
  • Works well with other team members.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Normal office working conditions including computer usage may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
