About Save Our Youth (SOY)

Save Our Youth, Inc. is a Christian faith-based youth development organization connecting young people to hope through long-term mentoring relationships with Christian adults. We collaborate with individuals and like-minded faith groups and churches in the community to increase awareness of youth resilience and to support their success. Save Our Youth trained volunteer mentors bring compassion, long-term commitment, and intentionality to provide youth a caring Christian adult by their side guiding them through life’s circumstances.

Position Summary

The Mentoring Specialist (MS) role can be thought of as the “Mentor to the Mentor” role. They are a high-performing individual who has strong administrative, time management, and relational skills. They manage a caseload that can vary in size, for the upcoming year this is a range between 45-55. An MS makes a projected 18-24 new matches in a calendar year. An MS provides ongoing support, training, and encouragement to mentors. An MS guides mentors towards support and resource connections for their mentees and their families. This role is a ministry of empowering Christian mentors to make a lasting impact on the lives of youth and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position works with a variety of generations – one day, you’ll be connecting with a 13-year-old and trying to decode the latest slang, and the next, you’ll be supporting a 65-year-old navigating modern communication challenges. Along the way, you’ll be calendaring, emailing, typing case notes, and maybe even doing the limbo at family fun day. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to care and learn about people of all ages is fundamental!

Case Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned caseload of one-on-one mentoring matches, adapting to match health, program priorities, and organizational needs, always with a heart for ensuring meaningful relationships.
  • Create new matches by screening and interviewing potential mentors and youth mentees, ensuring alignment with the mission of fostering impactful, Christ-centered connections.
  • Provide dedicated New Match Care by contacting new matches weekly in the first month to build a strong foundation and set them up for long-term success.
  • Support ongoing matches proactively with regular, consistent mentor coaching and contact (3-4 times annually), focusing on relationship growth, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Engage in events with matches to deepen relationships, celebrate milestones, and experience the joy of community connection.
  • Approach difficult conversations with courage, knowing training and support are provided to equip you for these impactful moments.
  • Connect with mentees and their families 3-4 times a year to ensure safety, foster engagement, and celebrate the mentee’s journey.
  • Host annual match meetings to reflect on progress, celebrate successes, and set inspiring new goals for the year ahead.
  • Be the go-to communicator for matches, sharing relevant updates, training resources, and opportunities for growth while ensuring clear and open communication across all departments.
  • Keep professional and accurate records, maintaining case notes and database updates to reflect phone calls, meetings, and activities with an eye for detail and a passion for serving with excellence.
  • Collaborate with your team and supervisor, discussing case challenges, sharing ideas, and finding solutions during one-on-one and team meetings.
  • Empower mentors through coaching and leadership, equipping them to support their mentees effectively and thrive in their roles.

General Program Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage and facilitate regular worship of Christ, incorporating prayer, Bible reading, devotions, silence and solitude, and praise with mentors, mentees, donors, and partners.
  • Pray intentionally for your caseload, seeking God’s guidance to foster meaningful relationships and impactful mentoring experiences. Provide pastoral care, spiritual resources, ministerial support, or home visits as needed.
  • Provide excellent quality match care while balancing making new matches.
  • Participate in the innovation and improvement of program processes and materials, contributing to the creation and support of impactful mentoring relationships.
  • Embrace a team-oriented approach by contributing to organizational goals and completing other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continuous learning, staying informed about industry trends, best practices, and innovations in youth services to enhance your effectiveness in the role.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of 2- 3 evenings a week and occasional Saturdays.
  • Have a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record. Comfortable driving on the highway and distances of up to an hour regularly to all corners of the Denver Metro area.
  • A committed Christian who demonstrates a healthy personal relationship with Jesus Christ as articulated by the leadership of Save Our Youth.
  • Strong passion for youth and the faith-based mission of Save Our Youth, Inc.
  • Agreement and alignment with the principles stated in the following documents as updated from time to time: SOY Core Values, SOY Standards of Conduct, SOY Employee Handbook, and SOY Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with, and/or in-depth understanding of, culturally diverse and under-resourced populations.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly with people of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to organize and track many simultaneous tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in leadership is desired.
  • Strong work ethic and self-starter.
  • Committed to personal and professional growth as a Christian leader and SOY team member. Seeks and applies feedback from coworkers and SOY leadership.

Current Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: $56,485.
  • Health and Dental Insurance are currently 100% covered for the employee, dependents may be added at employee cost.
  • Current PTO: Flexible PTO plan for vacation, personal, and sick time; 11 paid holidays (includes employee’s birthday each year); paid office closure from Dec 24th – Jan 1st annually; and monthly individual Christian spiritual retreats vetted/approved by SOY.
  • Other benefits SOY currently offers: Hybrid work model, 3% employer 403(b) retirement account match, medical and transportation FSA, worker’s compensation, unemployment, staff development, and employee-paid benefit options.
  • A Ministerial Housing Allowance may be available to certain staff members to the extent that the individual employee and job responsibilities qualify under SOY requirements and those of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service standards and practices.
