Senior Pastor
Position Summary: The Senior Pastor serves as the primary leader of First Baptist Church Joelton providing spiritual direction, visionary leadership, pastoral care, and administrative oversight. The Senior Pastor will work collaboratively with the pastoral team, administrative staff, deacons, and congregation to fulfill the church’s mission and vision.
The Senior Pastor is ultimately accountable to God and the congregation. He relates to and maintains communication with the Personnel Committee as the committee provides care, accountability, and structure for his ministry success and fruitfulness.
Key Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership:
Provide biblical instruction through the ministry of preaching and teaching the Word of God.
Lead, equip, and empower other leaders through prayer, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
Equip the congregation to do the work of ministry.
Provide pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and support for members in need.
Administrative Leadership:
Oversee the church’s strategic planning and cast a ministry vision for FBCJ.
Lead, support, and coordinate with church staff to advance the cause for Christ and support goals and vision of the church.
Collaborate with Board of Directors, deacons, and committees to ensure effective governance and decision-making.
Foster collaboration, trust, open communication, address conflict, and create a positive workplace culture.
Worship and Services:
Prepare and deliver biblical, Christ-centered sermons that are expositional in nature and edifying to the congregation and others as part of corporate worship.
Coordinate with the worship ministry to prepare cohesive and meaningful worship experiences.
Lead in the regular observance of the church ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Lead and/or assist with weddings and funerals as appropriate.
Outreach and Evangelism:
Lead the church in outreach efforts to the local community and beyond.
Develop and support mission programs and initiatives.
Encourage and equip the congregation to engage in personal evangelism.
Community Engagement:
Represent the church in community activities and civic matters.
Build relationships with local organizations and other churches.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A Master’s of Divinity or equivalent degree, preferably from a Southern Baptist Seminary.
At least 10 years of ministry experience that demonstrates progressive increase in responsibility leading to and including senior pastor experience.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong biblical knowledge and theological understanding.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven leadership and administrative abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
Compassionate and empathetic pastoral care skills.

A deep and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Integrity, humility, and a servant-leader mindset.
Visionary and strategic thinker.
Adhere to the standards set for Overseers/Pastors in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
