It has been nearly four decades since Cannelton Baptist last sought a new pastor. For some in the congregation trusting God for a new pastor will be unfamiliar territory. Attached is a copy of our church profile. Our goal is to be transparent to help applicants make good decisions.

Long term ministries have strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths would be the interpersonal skills necessary to accomplish ministry in the long haul. Like all relationships, Cannelton Baptist was not void of conflicts or challenges. But each conflict and challenge was handled with Biblical wisdom and good sense. Order and peace were maintained through each experience. A weakness might be the inability for the church to adjust to new pastoral ministry. This has been the nemesis of other churches with long term ministries. We are trusting God to equip us to honor, follow and encourage new leadership.

Our current pastor remains in good health; he desires to remain at Cannelton Baptist in a part time capacity. We believe he is capable of developing a partnership in ministry with an incoming pastor. The specifics of that partnership would likely include sharing the preaching load. Other details of the relationship will be determined by our current pastor consulting with the incoming pastor.

For us at Cannelton Baptist, character is more important than skills. Character is non-negotiable. Love for God defined by gratitude for salvation, passion for his word, an obedient faith, humility and an unashamed boldness for the gospel are core characteristics.

Our vision for the future has much to do with our relationship with the community. The community remains largely ambivalent towards God. We have not done a good job of connecting with them. We are trusting God for leadership who will help us be effective as light to the community. Particularly, we are not connecting with young families nor do we use current media platforms. We believe that someone who is able to help us connect with the community and implement the use of the current media platforms would be a good fit for Cannelton Baptist.
