JOB SUMMARY: The Children’s Pastor, in partnership with staff and volunteers implements the Arvada Covenant Church (ACC) vision by leading, coordinating, and equipping the Children’s Ministry (CM). The Children’s Pastor will lead the ministry by partnering with families for their children to live into the purpose and practices of ACC. This individual works as a servant leader and role model with the Children’s Ministry staff, both paid and volunteer, to facilitate a harmonious and productive working environment that will allow the Children’s Ministry programs to meet the spiritual needs of children and caregivers of those it serves.
OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE:
- Express an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ and support the essential beliefs of the Evangelical Covenant Church
- Partner with church staff in the accomplishment of the church’s purpose and practices through ministry evaluation, discernment, decision making, and planning.
- Develop and implement ministry vision, ministry goals, and age-appropriate curriculum that communicates the beliefs of ACC to disciple our kids to become lifelong followers of Christ.
- Coordinate, equip, and provide necessary resources to all volunteers, and staff to carry out effective ministry to children and their families.
- Coordinate with the Student Ministry to develop goals for the transition of children from 5th grade to middle school.
- Provide compelling and effective communication regarding Children’s ministry programs, activities, and events
- Implement safety and security policies and procedures
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct annual reviews of ministry area staff
- Provide pastoral care as needed: counseling, weddings, funerals, visitation and preaching periodically, with a focus on families of children
- Develop volunteers across assigned ministry areas using the ITAFERR (Invite, Train, Affirm, Feedback, Evaluate, Recognize, Reflect) model.
- Primary Leader of Children’s Ministries:
– Direct the overall ministry to children and their families at ACC primarily from nursery through the fifth grade.
– Communicate and partner with parents in discipleship of their children.
– Manage the CM record keeping, including, but not limited to attendance and volunteer lists
– Oversee the management of supplies and equipment for CM
– Provide ministry for children for worship services, outreach programs and special events as requested by pastoral leadership
– Coordinate CM schedules with the church calendar
– Supervise Part-time Children’s ministry staff
– In consultation with the Co-Lead Pastors, oversee Children’s budget
– Attend all scheduled ACC staff meetings as directed by Co-Lead Pastors
– Conduct a regularly scheduled Children’s ministry team meeting
– Attend all large church gatherings, including, but not limited to annual and semiannual congregational meetings
– Perform all other duties as assigned by pastoral staff
- Partner with Student Ministry
– Partner to coordinate calendar, rite of passage and common pathway
– Provide service opportunities for high/middle schoolers to engage in CM
– Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Student Ministry Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Seminary Degree and be an ordained minister of the gospel or working towards ordination in the ECC; and if not, must be willing to seek ordination in the ECC.
Experience Required
- Minimum of five years of experience in church ministry. Must have worked in roles that include responsibilities such as: overseeing budgets; leading and developing staff and lay leaders, etc.
- Ministry with families experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities
- Detailed-oriented individual who demonstrates strong executive administration, organizational, operational and leadership skills that require high initiative and minimum supervision
- Relational skills that would connect well with children, students and families.
- The ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
- Must be a team player with a passion for coaching and empowering staff and volunteers while facilitating all aspects of ministry; a shepherd passionate for connecting
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as educational curriculum, safety rules, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers or parents of the church
